When she first tried it did not work out for her. She had to go take a break on the shore. When she gained the courage to try it again she finally got it and even did a cool trick! In this book and baby chicken (chick), who is also a girl (chick), wants to learn to surf as well as her famous dad can. Her dad buys her a board and takes her out to practice. It isn't easy for chick to get the hang of it at first and she falls off a lot. Finally, after a lot of practice she gets better at surfing and soon she is the best on the beach. This book is a good example of fantasy because it shows a struggle of good verses evil. The evil is represented by her struggles and the good is her perseverance. The story also holds together and is believable. FANTASY The graphics or illustrations are really cool. Wonderful colors and characters. Father and daughter relationship even if they are FOWL. Young "chic" faces the challenge of living in the shadow of her famous surfing dad. Facing fears and struggle of herself becoming a surfer herself. I get good vibe because their external/internal conflict to be faced. I could relate to the dynamics of having too grow up under expectations of parent. The play on words with the title was interesting because the main character is a "she", and the word Chick (chic), well at least I think it could be criticized. Perseverance, determination and good relationship with dad shows definite angle to teach or introduce topics with book. Although to me its just ENJOYABLE reading.
