The characters were all very flat, there were a lot of them, and I had trouble remembering who was who. The spell book club/coven was...meh. It would have been more interesting if Katie had shown an interest in learning spellcraft and the associated spirituality instead of just inheriting her power. The story is set in Savannah but I didn't get a sense of that place at all, and I think only two of the many characters were Black. The love triangle...ugh. So tropey. There was both a lot going on, and not enough. Too many story elements that were only explored on the surface. That is, it was not so obnoxious or sensational that I was annoyed. In fact, I liked Ms. Cates' treatment of the subject, although the male Witch character was a little, umm.. much.
Still though, it was an interesting plot, good characterizations, and, as a fan of Savannah, a very enjoyable entertainment. Looking forward to checking out the next one. (
