Continuación de Parque Jurásico, esta obra es sin duda el libro del año y la novela más esperada de la última década. Michael Crichton, el gran maestro de la aventura inteligente y verosímil, retoma los aspectos más inquietantes de la trama original y logra una narración tan emocionante como sólo su talento podía conseguir. En la isla de Costa Rica donde la pesadilla comenzó, se encuentran varios cadáveres de dinosaurios. El paleontólogo Richard Levine organiza una expedición y, gracias a sus peculiares ayudantes - dos niños superdotados-, consigue que Ian Malcolm, uno de los pocos hombres que conoce lo que realmente ocurrió en aquella isla remota, colabore en la arriesgada empresa. Como es sabido, esa isla fue el verdadero “laboratorio” del parque, donde los dinosaurios eran “fabricados” y criados sin ningún criterio científico por los responsables de una empresa cegada por los intereses económicos. Ahora las consecuencias de tales manipulaciones son pavorosas: los dinosaurios se han vuelto violentos e impredecibles y amenazan con extender su salvaje hegemonía a todo el planeta.

Meh. Not as good as the first one. Feels somewhat re-hashed, even though the basic principle has expanded a bit. ( )

This book is amazing, though not the sort of book I normally read. I don't know, maybe Michael Crichton has (had?) the ability to actually capture my attention even though half the stuff in his novels (I've only read this book and the first part) would normally put me to sleep.

The characters are shelled out greatly - I especially love the twist where Ian Malcolm realizes just how annoying know-it-alls can be.

Although, I read somewhere noting that Crichton was asked to write the sequel in order to make a second film. What displeases me is, if that is true, how they used nothing from the book to push the movie forward. Unlike with the first novel, which had several elements planted into the film, The Lost World was probably just flipped through and decided only to be used as a stepping stone. I know I shouldn't be comparing it to the film, because that's just plain wrong, but it was a thought I had while reading it.

Nevertheless, the book's a great read and is rarely slow moving, even during those long explanations of theories. ( )
