In 1147, Queen Eleanor and King Louis VII traverse to Jerusalem for the Second Crusade. Along with her fancy bedding and wine, the wily, young queen brings five lovely and talented women--spies identified by a signature garden scent. Among them is the beautiful widow Isabella de Lacey, aka Violet, whose duty is to infiltrate Emperor Manuel’s inner circle and skillfully extract information. Will he aid the queen’s cousin or betray the alliance for one with the Turks? To find out Isabella must woo the emperor’s man, Raoul, whose soul is as black as his eyes and passion both terrifies and captivates her. Set in Constantinople, this historical romance is the first in a series about the clandestine network of female spies beholden only to the powerful Eleanor of Aquitaine.… (més)

    Love's Magic de Traci E. Hall (Chandra-of-Red)
Chandra-of-Red: AUTHOR: TRACI HALL writes Medieval Paranormal Romances, Young Adult Paranormal, Coming of Age YA and Non-Fiction. This is my “first” time having read a book by this author. "Love's Magic" is not YA nor erotica and I don't read either. Her writing style shows an ability to leave the reader with a continuous, “what will happen next”. Most romance readers, I feel, do not want to jump right into the romancing. This author knows how to create the building blocks of romance with continuous hints. You will be happy to wait. Gives the book more....umm shall we say...character. My only objection to her writing is that until you really get to know the characters, she is difficult to follow on the who’s who list (my opinion judged only by this book).… (més)

Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, married to King Louis VII of France, joins him on a campaign to the Crusades. Along the way to Jerusalem, they accept the hospitality of Emperor Manuel in Constantinople. The emperor’s personal bodyguard Raoul is stunned to see the ladies who guard the lovely French queen dressed in battle-ready gear. He’s especially dismayed when his liege orders him to gain information by sticking close to Lady Isabella. Using the code name Violet, she’s under oath to the queen and obeys the royal’s command to gather intelligence. But as the fierce guardsman and the wily widow spend time together, can they dare to let down their guard? Betrayed in his past, Raoul distrusts women. Will falling for Isabella mean risking his life to lie with the enemy? This story hooked me from the beginning and kept me going to the exciting finale. ( )

Special thank you to author Traci E. Hall for sending me the pdf and allowing me to read this book. I recommend her book LOVE's MAGIC. You will love it.

WHAT I LIKED
Each character was easily identifiable. I know there was a history lesson in there somewhere. I could not quite figure it out but appreciated author notes at end to clarify. Raoul was "hot".

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE
The book read more like a play to me than a book. Too much dialogue was distracting as events occurred. Historically confusing.

WHY READ THIS BOOK
If Historical romance with ESPIONAGE is your thing, this book is for you. ( )
