A nice mix of vignettes about the people who visited the author's first foray into the world of B&Bs, together with tidbits about her life and some great recipes. I will look for more from the author (she also writes romances - I think I have at least one on my shelf, so will be checking that out in future) ( ) How Not To Run A B&B is filled with wonderful anecdotes about the author's time as owner of a Bed and Breakfast in Vancouver. The visitors to her B&B and her wonderfully quirky neighbors and friends make this a truly enchanting story. The recipes included in the book are a great bonus and better than most of the breakfast books offered these days. The author's philosophy and wisdom combined with her compassion really make her story compelling. Despite a couple typos and formatting issues, this is completely entertaining and a strong 4.5 star read. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I adored this memoir of a strong woman who decides to turn her home into a B&B to supplement her income. She is a romance writer who lives in a lovely home in Canada. The book includes stories of guests who visited, her dating life and her friends in the area. I loved chapter 11 where a guest from another country visits and we hear her tale. It was extremely touching! I could also relate to chapter 18 as I am a huge reader and hoarder of books, and I recall from my youth pouring over the World Books at my Grandparents. The book includes recipes that the author found her guests preferred for breakfast. Overall, it was a delight to read. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Bobby Hutchinson, a bestselling Harlequin writer, decides to open a B&B in Vancouver, B.C., when sales of romance novels falter. Despite never having stayed in a B&B and knowing absolutely nothing about running one, she jumps right in. Strange people from nearby and halfway around the world arrive at her home with their stories and struggles, not to mention their baggage, psychological and otherwise. Each chapter is peppered with a humor, a little tragedy and many life lessons (but mostly humor). There are sure fire breakfast recipes guaranteed to turn out even if the cook is half asleep. In explaining why she opened a B&B, she says, "I was far too old for prostitution, the only other job I could think of which might net enough to pay the mortgage."
