I prefer the short story included in [b:Curious?: A Woman's Introduction to Gay Romance|7938293|Curious? ( ![]() I have read and enjoyed most of Amy Lane's backlist, so the first time I tried to get into this one and couldn't, it confused me. This time I was patient with the somewhat choppy beginning. While it's still not my favorite, (I think because while I found Jace eventually compelling, I didn't actually like him much), poker analogies are an interesting way to tell a story. But the game Quent wins is the best one. :) This is fun and sweet and snarky, very on-branf for Lane, though IMHO not one of her best. After reading the blurb on this one I was really in two minds about reading it. On the one hand it sounded really great. One the other...AND it's Amy Lane, the Queen of Angst! So I was rather hesitant to start. Lucky for me the angstfest didn't eventuate. Still it was a lot of pages, constantly going back to the same thing again and again... But as there was more going on and being so well written it wasn't a big issue. And I did love both Jase and Quent, so that just clinched the deal. Quent and Jason are business partners who have been friends since their freshman year of college. Everything they've done has been based on Jason's outlook that life is poker and he lives it like he's in one constant game. But when one night they give in to passion, can they beat the odds and ensure their friendship-turned-romance is based on a winning hand. I struggled with this one a bit. I know the poker metaphor is a large part of this book, but I feel like it overshadowed things quite a bit. I also felt like Jason's personality was off-putting and a bit inconsistent at times--especially in terms of him being in control and possessive vs. indecisive with no real rhyme or reason that I could discern. Ultimately, though, it is a nice little romance and I did enjoy the dynamic between the two of them. This is a cute sexy story about two best friends. They’ve been besties forever. They went to college together and now work together. The make a perfect couple with lots of fun and sexy. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Quent Jackson has followed Jason Spade's every move in business and in poker since their first day as college freshmen. Eight years later, when Jace finally decides Quent is the one man he can't live without, he sees no reason for that to change. But as much as Jace believes that poker is life, no one gave Quent the same playbook. After their first passionate night, the real game of love and trust begins, and Jace has been playing alone too long to make teaching the rules easy. Jace only speaks two languages: one of them is sex, and the other one is poker. Between the two, he needs to find a way to convince himself to take a chance on loveâand Quent to take a chance on him. It's a lucky thing they're good at reading the odds, because they're playing for keeps, and this is one high-stakes relationship that's definitely worth the gamble.
