When I started reading this, I could see that I was going to have to think myself into a different world - there's a need to suspend or flip reality. I read the other two books quite a while ago and so I was fuzzy on some things. Besides Toby, Zeb and Blackbeard, I think the characters I liked best were the pigoons. They changed the most and have the most potential. ( ![]() This is a relationship book and a morality tale as most of Margaret Atwood books are. A woman does not need to be the biological parent to be a true mother. All cannot be redeemed. What is the definition of being "human"? The reason for hiding because of spoilers: All through the series the children of Crake are to be protected but it turns out they are hardier than it first appears. Protected because of their ignorance and innocence. Protected because they were not "programmed" to kill. But they were "programmed" to survive, which makes all the difference. What is revealed in the end is that there are some things that are innate that cannot be programmed out of us: leadership, religion, desire to learn, music, and so much more. Omg, it was ends! I like this rating system by ashleytylerjohn of LibraryThing (https://www.librarything.com/profile/ashleytylerjohn) that I have also adopted: (Note: 5 stars = rare and amazing, 4 = quite good book, 3 = a decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful.) This is a good finish to the first 2 books. Atwood is definitely on my "trusted authors" list.
Atwood's prose miraculously balances humor, outrage and beauty. ... It's a pleasure to read a futuristic novel whose celebration of beauty extends to the words themselves. And words are very important here; by the moving end of "MaddAddam," we understand how language and writing produced the beautiful fiction that described our beginnings. MaddAddam is slightly crazed, usually intriguing and often great fun. I would have enjoyed it even more, however, were it not for the nagging voice that said: instead of this, we might have had another Alias Grace, or another The Blind Assassin. Months after the Waterless Flood pandemic has wiped out most of humanity, Toby and Ren have rescued their friend Amanda from the vicious Painballers. They return to the MaddAddamite cob house, which is being fortified against man and giant Pigoon alike. Accompanying them are the Crakers, the gentle, quasihuman species engineered by the brilliant but deceased Crake. While their reluctant prophet, Jimmy--Crake's one-time friend--recovers from a debilitating fever, it's left to Toby to narrate the Craker theology, with Crake as Creator. She must also deal with cultural misunderstandings, terrible coffee, and her jealousy over her lover, Zeb. Meanwhile, Zeb searches for Adam One, founder of the God's Gardeners, the pacifist green religion from which Zeb broke years ago to lead the MaddAddamites in active resistance against the destructive CorpSeCorps. Now, under threat of an imminent Painballer attack, the MaddAddamites must fight back with the aid of their newfound allies, some of whom have four trotters. At the center is the extraordinary story of Zeb's past, which involves a lost brother, a hidden murder, a bear, and a bizarre act of revenge. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
