I've seen Saga around for years, but never picked it up until Sam bought it on Saturday at Fantom's new location in Dupont Circle. (http://www.fantomcomics.com/) The art is fantastic and so is the story! I can't think how to summarize the storyline except "Romeo and Juliet and colonialism," but that doesn't get the subtleties across very well. Just in the last three days we've had several conversations about the themes of war and how it affects morality. Sam's already done with the second volume and wishing she had bought the third. You now when you read something new and awesome, and your heart starts to race and you just get so excited that you almost can't read it because it's so freaking awesome? Well I just experience that. OMG I LOVE SAGA! I am obsessed with it. Just.. heart-eyes emoji this! I can't help but be hyperbolic about it. It's a crazy, weird, highly imaginative space saga that even in this short volume feels totally epic! Alana and Marko, whom I both just LOVE and they're both gorgeous, are star-crossed lovers who, like all the best star-crossed lovers, hail from opposing sides of a galactic war between the people of the planet Landfall and it's moon Wreath. We miss the sappy falling in love stuff, and jump in right as Alana gives birth to their hybrid baby Hazel, who is the narrator of the story. The people of Landfall have wings, while the people of Wreath have rams horns and can use magic. There are also robot people with TV's for heads (they have a royal family, and also have sex), ghosts and an assortment of just bizarre alien creatures in the best possible way. Alana and Marko are both badass, but feel totally natural and I appreciate that we're seeing them out of the initial honeymoon period! I also liked The Will the freelancer and his 'Lying Cat.' There was nothing that I didn't like about it... it's got everything, and this is a world that I definitely need to get further into! It feel like Star Wars... but weirder... and I think better! The artwork is also gorgeous. I need more... my only complaint is that it was too short! This is the first graphic novel I have read and it was really enjoyable, filled with lots of humour. I will definitely look for the next in the series at my e-books library as I know my local library doesn't have physical copies . 1790 Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Still, it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. More subversion, stronger characters, better and more frequent humour would go a long way. I don't doubt it might improve, but I don't feel a need to read more volumes. (
