Adversity A young girl, Eva, is involved in a car accident that leaves her body destroyed. Her mind however seems to be fine. When Eva wakes up from her coma she understands that this accident will and has changed her life. However, she never imagined where she would see on the other side of the mirror. Her mind and whole sense of self has been transferred to the body of a chimpanzee. This book tells of how Eva adjusts to her new life and eventually fights for these animals who she has found a new connection with. This is one of the books from my youth that stuck with me. I read it when I was in junior high. Even 20 years later I can still remember many of the details. Eva finding out what happened. The keyboard she used to communicate. The outcome of others who tried to undergo the same surgery she did. This book inspired me to learn more about science, the brain, and ecology. It also influenced me to write science fiction of my own. Eva is a girl who, after a car accident, wakes up to find herself in a body that is not her own. She quickly discovers that her scientist parents, along with innovative doctors, have put her brain in the body of a chimpanzee. Eva's human body was too brutalized to be saved. Eva had grown up with a close relationship to chimps thanks to her father's career. Now, Eva is the first of her kind. She must learn to connect and utilize her brain and new body, and figure out which world she is a part of. Eventually, Eva is faced with a bigger task - saving her species.
