Because of a facial deformity, 13-year-old Lucius is shipped off to a Louisiana state school for retarded boys where he is nicknamed Lizard. Unable to cope with life at the school, Lizard escapes with a travelling theatre group and through the course of his time with them, learns that he is stronger and more capable than he thinks. Although dated and occasionally politically incorrect with regards to today's elementary school standards, this is an interesting story line and recommended for teenage readers. ( ) Here’s a great road trip story, set in the south in the 1970s. Because of his unusual look, “Lizard” Lucius Sims was left at a school for retarded boys. When a man claiming to be his dad comes to take him away, Lizard is suspicious, but ready for adventure. Will he really become an actor? Will he be able to rescue Rain, a mysterious girl? No one is just what s/he appears to be. Not quite as good as it could have been, due to the number of plot twists and undeveloped characters who come and go too quickly. Some nice moments, but not a satisfying read. Had I not read and reviewed Petey a week prior, I may have judged this ya book less harshly. They both share similar unfortunate protagonists, a rambling timeline and jarring changes in location, but Petey was a much better story. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

This is the story of Lizard. He's funny looking, different, so they've sent him to a special school, but he doesn't feel special to anyone. This is the story of his escape and a journey filled with actors, drifters and misfits, all as different as the boy they call Lizard. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
