Kids will love this book. It introduces them to many mysteries that are fun to read about. It exposed them to evidence that people claim to have about creatures, encounters, and places. Then in a section called Examining the Evidence, it gives them something to think about letting them see that in the end they need to examine the evidence collected on both sides and come to their own conclusions about the validity of the stories. Visually the book is colorful which makes it extremely appealing. Each page contains pictures with factual information that is set in colorful insets that are designed to capture the reader's attention. I'm not sure where this book would fit into a lesson though. Perhaps, a teacher could read a passage describing a character and the children could attempt to capture the image described. It could emphasis the importance of using adjectives. Perhaps, the students could write creative stories about the creatures. Perhaps it could be used in a debate class. I think children as young as third grade would enjoy the book as well as adults. I would put it in my library. It;s a fun read. There were some stories about creatures and places that I had never heard about, and I like speculating about these types of stories. I think that children will too. ( )
