Lottie accepts an impromptu proposal from her long lost teenage boyfriend and then calamity and hilarity ensue. I laughed out loud during each new hurdle in the honeymoon from hell. The story is just tops in my book because of the brilliant comedy, but also the sweet ending and romance. I sped read the last chapters because I could not WAIT to find out the fate of the ill-advised relationship. ( ![]() Loved it! I had a bit of a problem, with this novel by Sophie Kinsella. It didn't 'grab' me, like they usually do. I didn't seem to 'connect with' the main character at all, which is usually weird for me.. but then this woman was SO desperate to get married, no matter to whom, as long as she was so. And that was the weird part--I usually do 'get' Kinsella's characters, and am able to put myself in their place. But this commitment-phobe had a difficult time with this NEED Lottie had, for the 'perfect picture in her head' to be made real. (Damn fairy tales! Damn Disney, too! Filling us little girls' head with useless crap about our Prince Charming, riding in on a white steed, to save the day!! UGH, don't even get me started.) Anyway, I kept soldiering on with this novel, hoping against hope it would get better. By chapter 10, things got very uncomfortable for me; I'm no prude, but ALL that Lottie and Ben could think about was sex. I didn't want to be the voyeur, in that scenario. Kinsella doesn't usually write Blue, and it was weird, for me. By chapter 12, things started getting a little silly.... and you feel a little bad for Lottie and Ben, and their Honeymoon from Hell. Also, Ben seemed to be a GIANT flake, and he was getting on my nerves, badly. Fliss was going too far in her endeavor to "save her sister", and Richard.... poor Richard..... lol Soon after, with each problem this couple ran into, I kept thinking, "oh my God, that's terrible..... oh my GOD, that's awful!.... OH MY GOD, those poor people!!!" You cannot help but start laughing at their predicaments, and being in awe of the sister Fliss' & the hotel manager's ingenuity. So what I am saying is, even though the first ten chapters were rather dull (for me), this novel does redeem itself in the end. I loved the second half of it, and by the last 4 or 5 chapters, I could not keep my 'nose' out of it, to finish dinner. (Dinner was finished, lol.) Each cruddy attempt for Lottie and Ben to "put the sausage in the cupcake" that resulted in another spectacular failure, was a joy for me. Each marvelous twist and turn in this novel made me quite happy. And each time someone grew up just a little bit more, I applauded. [SPOILER] The fact that Fliss and Lorcan got together in the end, was just icing on the cake. If you want a fun, light read, that takes no thought and is totally enjoyable, then this is the novel for you. Funny British humor This may be a romance, but really, it is a story of two sisters whose relationship is pushed to the limits. Lottie is marrying on the rebound. Jilted by her current boyfriend, she reconnects with a former one. But Fliss sure this is a vast mistake, and is determined to end her sister’s marriage before it is too late, that is, before it is consummated. Now it is a race with the clock and becomes a comedy of errors. But though a light read, it is not quite as fluffy as one might think at first glance. The characters are flawed, but nearly all show growth and understanding as they come to grips with their lives. They are finally given the gift to see themselves as others see them, and that makes all the difference. Author Sophie Kinsella has penned entertaining and humorous tale that still sends a message.
