At twenty-two, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs. But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can't keep her hands off him. When things in Grateful's house start moving on their own, another man enters her life, Logan, a sexy ghost with a dark secret. He says Rick isn't what he seems, and indulging her passion for him could cost her soul. ...So what’s this book about?
Our heroine is, Grateful Knight, a twenty-two year old nurse who has recently found herself heavily in debt caused by her last boyfriend, Gary, who stole all of her money and so can no longer afford to live in the city. Luckily, her Dad is an estate agent and lets her live rent free in one of the properties on his books. The downside is that the house is on the edge of the oldest cemetery in Red Grove and is haunted but the house turns out to be not only her solution to regain her solvent future but the key to secrets in her past.
Grateful’s love life also gets more complicated when she meets Rick, the cemetery’s sexy caretaker and Logan, a passionate ghost who lived in her attic. Enter the love triangle!
This is the first book in the Knight Games series.

...So, what did I like about it?
Genevieve Jack’s writing style was easy and enjoyable to read. I liked the way she created the history of the graveyard, the Monk’s Hill witch and her Caretaker. The mix of action, sex and pace throughout the book kept me reading as the story unfolded. My favourite character was Grateful’s best friend, and fellow nurse, Michelle. She is the sort of best friend that every woman should have; she was supportive but gave good level headed advice when Grateful needed it! I felt that both of Grateful’s love interests, Rick and Logan, were anything but pearly white which I liked; after all, the world isn’t black and white but myriad shades of grey!

...So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
To be honest, there was more that I didn’t like about this story than liked so I’ll keep to my main gripes. I suppose my biggest problem was that I didn’t connect to the main character which meant that I didn’t get involved in her story. I found Grateful Knight fickle, gullible, naive and, to be honest, a bit slow on the uptake, was this Genevieve Jack’s intention? I don’t know but these character flaws tainted my enjoyment. I’ve since found out that Mrs Jacks writes YA stories and although this book had the warning “The Ghost and The Graveyard is a funny, exciting, and sexy read intended for adults. Due to sexual content, language, and violence this book is recommended for ages 18 ” I felt that this "warning" was just a bit of PR fluff to entice us in as I feel that the way the characters in this book have been written, how the various relationships develop and a great deal of the language (euphemisms) feel better suited for a YA story. Yes, the sex scenes were many, graphic and quite descriptive but I didn’t feel they were written well, they felt a bit “jumpy” to me; I’m sure that Mrs Jack’s skill at writing sex scenes and will improve the more she writes them.

...So, basically what I’m saying is...
I downloaded this book because it was free on Amazon UK, the blurb sounded good and the book cover further convinced me that this would be the sort of story that I'd enjoy reading. I had nothing to lose but my time. Sadly, it didn’t live up to my expectations and I won’t be downloading the next book in this series. I’m in my early forties, so perhaps it’s an age thing. If you’re in your early twenties and like unusual love triangles, magic, ghosts, vampires, witches and things that go bump in the night, it might appeal to you. ( )

Grateful Knight is simply looking for a cheap (free) place to live and recover from her last disastrous romance when she moved into the house that her father inherited. Beautiful home, except for the graveyard that begins in the back yard. And the ghosts that inhabit it. And the Caretaker of the cemetery that is incredibly handsome but is full of surprises.

It isn't long before Grateful learns that her fate includes the choice to become a very powerful witch.

LOTS of sex filled scenes, but I still felt the book was about the story line.

I liked it - ended too abruptly, but that's because the author wants you to read the next in the series (which I am pretty confident I will!) ( )

This book had a few strong moments, but it was overshadowed by the weak writing. Some of the dialogue felt stunted or rehearsed, and the story trailed on far past the climax. I understand there were elements that still needed to be wrapped up before the conclusion, but most of what occurred after the showdown with the big baddie would have contributed more to the overall story if it had happened beforehand.

My favorite part, however, was the main character's strength of conviction. She is a believable twenty-two-year-old, and more than that, she has an admirable backbone. Despite her (unrealistic) desire to drag Rick off to the bedroom every time he joins a scene, she still refuses to marry him because they barely know each other, she knows she has a bad habit of rushing into things, and she isn't comfortable with marrying anyone yet. Her refusal to bow to either of the men wooing her is wonderful to watch, and was almost enough to hold my attention for the duration of the book. Overall, however, I'm glad I got a free ebook version of "The Ghost and the Graveyard" from barnesandnoble.com, and I won't be purchasing or reading the sequel. ( )

The Ghost and the Graveyard (Knight Games #1)
by Genevieve Jack (Goodreads Author), Brittany Pressley (Narrator)
I read this book as ebook before but I got the next couple of books in the series so I decided to re-read it by listening to it. I forgot how good it was. A witch reincarnated in a gal that moves in by a cemetery. The caretaker is smoking hot and more than a caretaker. The house is not empty, there are souls already there. It is a great a sexy fantasy. It also has vampires, ghouls and more.
The narrator is great and makes the story even better! I gave the novel 4 stars before but 5 stars with the audible. ( )

WOW! That was my first thought when I finished this one. I was entertained from the opening words to the last page. Seriously y'all, I cannot believe this book is free on Amazon. I feel so awful about this one being free I might just send Miss Jack price of the book.

The characters are well developed, intensely likable and totally believable. A very fast paced read, seemingly leaving you breathless in some parts. I read this one practically in one sitting, mostly because I didn't want to put it down.

Vamps, demons, zombies, winged things, ghosts, and witches. It had all the elements of fun! The sex was pretty hot, but left enough to the imagination to make it tasteful. The thought of living practically in a cemetery is super creepy too! I can't wait to read the next one to find out who Grateful Knight (super awesome name!) chooses, will it be the hot, hunky, chiseled love of her lives, Rick, or will it be the needy, green eyed, super coffee maker, chef extraordinaire spectral (sort of) Logan? I know who I am rooting for! Could it be Gary? Or will Gary become even more of a JERK? Will Mr. Hellborine be revealed? Are they in store for a supernatural war?? I need to know!
I would like to know more about her past. I was slightly disappointed that the aspect of the book wasn't fleshed out more.
All in all, this is one for the favorites shelf! Looking forward to the next book! Get this one before Miss Jack realizes that it is still free! LOL

XOXO
