No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. Rachel Chu has been dating Nicholas Young, a fellow professor in New York City, for two years when he asks her to fly home to Singapore with him for his best friend's wedding. Although a bit leery of the implications of meeting his family for the first time, Rachel agrees. Little does she know that Nicholas Young is the heir to a huge family fortune, and the family is large, entitled, and obsessed with bloodlines. Rachel, daughter of a single mom of modest means, is unprepared for what awaits her. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I needed a Singaporean book for a challenge. Chick lit is not a genre I often read. But what I found was a funny, satirical look at life among the ultra-rich in Singapore, by an author who was on the periphery of that crowd until the age of eleven when he moved to the US. Peppered with slang in Cantonese, Malay, and Mandarin, the novel includes details about the island and the lifestyles of the Asian jet set who live there. Fast-paced with an often wicked humor, I enjoyed this romp of a book and might look for the next volume in the trilogy the next time I need a light diversion. Note: the family tree in the front of my copy was invaluable in keeping everyone straight. Loved it! Can’t wait to see the movie. Glad there are two more books with these characters because I’ve fallen in love with a few of them. Literally finished this book right before I got to watch it in theatres. Overall, really enjoyed it, however my memory of the book is overshadowed by the movie inaccuracies haha It's a romantic drama. No need to think too much. Just grab some popcorn (or something that won't leave crumbs in your pages) and enjoy. I absolutely adore this book. I heard so many of my peers rave for years and then when I saw the film I agreed that I needed to read the book. It only took me 4 years to finally read it and now I wished I hadn't waited so long. I've read Sex and Vanity from Kevin Kwan, and I was just as impressed with Crazy Rich Asians as I was with that one. Considering that he is a male author, the female characters are written incredibly well. Kwan has great insight into the interpersonal communications of women. I love the character development and found myself unable to put the book down because I was so invested in the stories. I prefer the ending in the book to the one in the film, but no spoilers here! This is a terrific book for anyone who loves a little drama and extravagance without any of the strings attached. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Crazy Rich Asians is the outrageously funny debut novel about three super-rich, pedigreed Chinese families and the gossip, backbiting, and scheming that occurs when the heir to one of the most massive fortunes in Asia brings home his ABC (American-born Chinese) girlfriend to the wedding of the season. When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of the Hong Kong socialite magazines; and Eleanor, Nick's formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should--and should not--marry. Too much talking about designer brands and how luxurious peoples apartments/condos/houses were.
I don't think I'll continue reading the series. (
