The author has written a limited audience appeal story of computer AI. It is a difficult story to write successfully and strike a balance between the technical and human aspects. I am fairly literate in computer technology and was able to follow the storyline. I have to wonder how most readers would fare while reading this book.

I thought the story was a bit sluggish and I had to convince myself to finish the book. I do want to point out that this rating is for the story and not for the author. I think there is promise for the author so I will keep him in mind.

The story is a bit too much like a parallel to the Planet of the Apes for me. I didn't think it was credible. If you are a tech reader and like the details of networking, this story may be for you. ( )

I won this book on librarything.com.

I read 20% of the book and then quit. It is not that the ideas are not interesting but that the writing is so wooden. It reads with utmost clarity and no style whatsoever. ( )

If you make it through the first 100 pages, which are mainly of the lecture type on artificial intelligence (and can, imo, easily be skipped), you will find a rather enjoyable tech-thriller with a twist - who thought that AI units had humour! ( )

Six, by Calvin Brown, is a novel that techies will love. It involves
a nefarious corporation with evil motives and computers that start
thinking for themselves and attack their corporate nemeses with
viruses. The first part of the book is almost devoid of human
interaction, i.e.dialog, but it picks up as the plot is revealed. This is a book
for you if you love the world of IT! ( )

Six tells the story of how a computer becomes sentient and then attempts to ensure its survival from an assumption it makes. At the same time, a team of computer cops are on the trail of hackers, who attempt to destroy a business and buy up stock options on their competition.
The first story I found to be interesting and thought there should be more to it. Whenever, reading it I would find myself forming questions to be answered. It was interesting how the author was able to combine the computers thoughts and at the same time giving them feelings of a sort.
The second portion, I could have done without all together. I thought it was there just to fill space and add words to the main story. I couldn't relate to the characters and found them to be routine.
Overall, the story is well written and flows well when you're reading it. I thought the story didn't end well though. It seemed to me as if it is Part 1 of a story and the next portion is still to come. ( )

Malevolent machines remain a mainstay in science fiction, with evil supercomputers as a well-known version of vicious manmade artificial intelligence.

Calvin J. Brown’s brilliant debut novel, Six, turns the trope upside down. Six, the titular supercomputer, develops curiosity, while the villains of the story are people.
