Phyllis Pellman Good’s Fix-It and Forget-It Holiday Sweets and Desserts explores the little-known experiences in the use of a slow cooker for creating Sweets and Desserts. While many are familiar with the creation of tender meats, casseroles, or appetizers in a slow cooker, few have knowledge or experience on how to utilize the appliance for anything more.
The focus of this compilation is strictly the titillation of one’s sweet tooth. The included list of sweet treats covers a multitude of creation of everything from spiced fruits and candies to cakes and cobblers. The format of the book includes a Table of Contents, which in the electronic form links to each recipe. This is nice for those who have an Ereader. However, for those who enjoy print, the Table of Contents would be more helpful if the enclosed recipes were in some sort of order, such as alphabetization. This would make the wanted contents even easier to find.
The illustrations included in the book are by Cheryl Benner and add the important delicious touch to the work. Each draws the appetite to a peak of hunger and want. All are the same general size, being placed sporadically throughout the work attached to the coinciding recipe so as to give a pleasing presentation. It is too bad there was not a photo for every recipe, but that could be too much temptation.
Also included, readers will find a special note after each recipe and at the end of the work is a tip section for Holiday entertainment. The notes/tips included with the recipes pertain to the recipe it follows. The tip section, at the end of the book, has little to do with the recipes at all, but represent a nice touch of helpful suggestions for the holidays. ( )
