THE CONTROVERSY provides a helpful explanation of the creation-evolution controversy. Formerly published as one of the Critical Concern Series by Multnomah Press, this favorite is now available again from Creation Compass. The author is a practicing scientist & former university professor with many years' experience giving popular-style lectures on the topic of origins. Written from a creationist perspective, THE CONTROVERSY is particularly helpful for high school & university students & for those with an open, inquiring mind on the subject. While the writing style is non-technical, sufficient scientific evidence is included to illustrate important points. In the first part of the book, the creation-evolution controversy is shown to be a world-view confrontation between two belief systems. The second part of the book discusses specific scientific data relating to creation & evolution. This listing is not meant to provide an exhaustive or detailed explanation, but simply to demonstrate how typical scientific data fit with a creationist viewpoint. Lastly, practical suggestions are provided for defending a creationist explanation against competing world views.… (més)

A very useful analysis of the larger philosophical issues behind the current disputations in regards to the origins of life and the universe.

While the author does, toward the end of the book, provide an analysis of how one could make the claim for creation science, the majority of the book is focused on the differences in presuppositions and perspectives of the different sides. The author demonstrates how the facts are the same-- the difference is in how the facts are interpreted and the greater scheme in which they are placed. He traces the beginnings of the theory of evolution and how evidence is often manipulated or re-cast in order to fit the presuppositions of the field.

The book, albeit dated, still has value, since the presuppositions and perspectives have not changed. A valuable resource in navigating the challenges of the modern controversies regarding science and religion, creation and evolution. ( )
