In my opinion, this is a great book for beginning readers who are just learning sight words. Each page of this book shows pictures with labels of each thing in the picture. Some pages include one big picture with many labels, while others have many small pictures with some labels. Regardless, what is being labeled is always very clear to the reader. This supports sight word recognition and helps children to develop their vocabularies of every day words. I particularly like the fact that the book ends with helpful words that students should know. The author writes, “Small words that will come in handy:” over a picture of a chick holding index cards with words such as also, had, about, and how on them. This introduces words that students have undoubtedly heard before, but are not easy to label. Since this book has no story, I feel as if it is best used in a classroom setting or at home for education purposes. This book is informational because the big idea is to teach children sight words.
