This book is about animals that maintain the train and work on the train. These animals are the engine drivers, the ones who haul, and who keep everything in order. The book is in all rhyme and provides some words in bold print. he animals are given human like characteristics (personification). The story begins with a real train and ends up being just a dream, the dream train. Great bedtime story for all ages. ( )

Steam Train, Dream Train is a poetry book that talks about a train run by animals with lots of toys. The train has blocks, balls, sand, paint, and ice cream. The end of the story shows a young boy sleeping near his toy train. The central message of this story is that your dreams can take you anywhere and make anything happen. ( )

This book is all about a train that travels through the night with animals performing various tasks to keep it moving. The text is really simplified, but the images are serene. I like the theme of nighttime movement, especially because moving through the night could be a fun image for kids to fall asleep to. I used to love books about falling asleep and the world during nighttime when I was young, so I appreciate a new ind of book with that purpose for the next generation.

FANTASY: (Primary)
This book is a good fantasy, because it uses magic to bring the animals to life. It gives them roles that make sense for the world they are in. They each fill the cars with things that make sense for the kind of animals that they are, polar bears eating ice cream, kangaroos bouncing in a ball pit. Obviously in real life this would not happen, however with the human like characterisitics that they acquire in the book, based on their abilities as animals, the things they fill their cars with make sense.

This book tells a tale of a train staffed with animals and filled with toys. The animals work hard to get the train ready to depart, and eventually go to sleep themselves. As they pack the train in the illustrations, Rinker's text teaches children vocabulary of the various types of train cars. I liked the friendly animals and the combination of a sweet bedtime story and the type of train/truck/machine related content that many young readers love. ( )
