In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life--and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to. Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone. For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? Open her heart to someone? Or will she just go on living inside somebody else's fiction?… (més)

This book is beautiful and simple. It is such a beautiful light-read.I loved it so much!I really love all the characters and the fact that eventhough story didn't have any major events in it,I loved it.I expected that one of the characters would die,but that never happened.Thank God!I cannot handle the death of my favourite characters anymore! It's too much.

Cath is the normal teenaged fangirl, who's in too deep to get out.She doesn't wanna branch out and make friends like her identical sister, Wren, does. The story takes place in Cath's university.

I loved all the characters.I loved to hate some of them :).You know what I mean!Reagen is my most favourite she's so funny and straight forward.I adore her because that is something I never will be.Cath is so relatable and Levi is everything you want in a guy.He has his own imperfections,he messes up.But he's too adorable to let go of.The story, unlike most of the juvenile fictions these days,is not dramatic at all.It is realistic and that is something I want in every single book that I read.I don't know what else to say.I hope this doesn't become a movie. You know why.Or I hope it becomes a movie, like an indie one, like the Perks.([b:The Perks of Being a Wallflower|15950494|The Perks of Being a Wallflower|Stephen Chbosky|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347279055s/15950494.jpg|2236198] movie)

That's all,see ya.I posted a rubbish review because I don't wanna ruin your reading experience.

Cath is starting college, but she's going to the same school as her twin sister, so this should be no big deal right? Wrong. Wren has been trying to break free of their little bubble and has decided not to room with Cath. Or even stay in the same dorm. Cath has always been the more awkward, less social twin, and without Wren she's completely lost. The only thing that keeps her going at college is her amazingly successful fan fiction that she writes based on Simon Snow (a Harry Potter-like series). Her roommate, Regan, and Regan's boyfriend, Levi, confuse Cath... her relationship with her twin becomes more strained as Wren's need for independence and partying gets more out of control... she starts meeting with a guy from class to write, but can't figure out what it means... and her Manic-Depressive father worries her to no end. To say this is a rough freshman year is an understatement!

My Thoughts:
Oh man this book. Do not start this book unless you have time to devote because you won't want to stop. I can't believe someone wrote a book about COLLEGE and it's not all about sex, drugs, and forbidden/abusive love. I want more books like this!! Please authors, more books like this!!

So now my feelings about Fangirl: Even though I was a bit of a party-er in college I found myself completely relating to Cath's experiences. When I first went to college, I was scared as hell. I didn't know my roommate and she wasn't very nice to me at first. I used to call my mom begging her to let me quit and come home for the first month at least. It was a lonely time where I always felt like a tag-along instead of a friend. So while reading the first third of this book I couldn't help but feel really emotional about everything Cath was going through. And I just kept thinking how she had a twin!! Her transition to college should have been a breeze. She has a built-in best friend. But Wren was not having that. All Wren wanted to do was party with her roommate Courtney. Thank goodness for Reagan and Levi!! They were a Godsend to Cath even though she didn't know it at first.

For only leaving her room when absolutely necessary, Cath experienced SO much. She has people take advantage of her, scary family situations to deal with, first love, being terrified of first love, and friendship. Through it all she is super witty and kind of hilarious. My copy of this book is full of highlights from things that made me smile and laugh. And things that broke my heart and made me cry.

I really loved the overall growth that everyone goes through throughout the book. Cath starts out so incredibly overwhelmed and she adapts in the best ways she can. I went through most of the book so pissed at Wren for abandoning Cath, but knew in my heart that they would work it out. I mean they are twins. It's kind of mandatory that you be cool with your twin. Then there's Levi. Levi is truly perfectly imperfect. I don't think Cath could've found a better guy to get her through everything she had going on. The roommate Regan goes from hard and rough exterior to caring without losing that edge to her. Seriously all the characters are just awesome.

There are so many things I want to say about this book and so many things that could be said that I could seriously write about it for way longer than you would ever want to read. What I am going to say is READ THIS BOOK. It is amazing and might be my favorite book of the year. Rainbow Rowell is my new John Green!

I'm pretty sure this review makes almost no sense because I loved the book so hard... so I'm sorry about that, I tried!!!

OVERALL: Holy-Shit WOW!!! This book was such a breath of fresh air. I loved reading about a college experience that felt real. I wish there were 100 more books about college like this one. It's a story of an awkward, fan fiction writing, college freshman who is trying to navigate a new experience without her twin. And it is AMAZING!

Note:
I reread this one on audio 6 years later. Totally recommend the audio!! It was the perfect book for it. New Thoughts-- Levi didn't hold up as high as I had him in my head. The first date he took Cath on was rather lame. Also, Cath is one of those severely challenged sexy-time people that make me cringe. I was a virgin at one time too, but how is anyone so clueless when it comes to sex? I liked Regan even more this time around (Cath is so lucky she got her as a roommate), and Wren is still a dick. Oh and also, I TOTALLY forgot what Cath did regarding her big English paper. The fact that she was still trying to not do just because she didn't like it was mind-boggling. Do you know how many papers people write in college that they don't want to?? Just do the damn paper-- and of course she wins an award for it even though she wrote it at the last minute ( )

Though I've loved every other book of Rowell, I was reluctant to read this one; for some reason, I was certain I wasn't going to enjoy it. However, then my library loan expired when I was halfway through it, and I ended up turning off all the internet connections on my phone and avoiding the real world in order to finish it. Because it was worth it.

My favourite minor plotline of this was seeing Cath exploring her writing and the discussion of whether fanfiction is plagiarism. I could relate in a sense as I use to roleplay frequently, and that was always much easier for me than writing assignments. Seeing Cath taking an upper level fiction course in her first year of university and struggling to create her own worlds was immensely understandable.

A lot of 'college' books have been popping up recently in the New Adult genre, but I felt that this maintained a lot of authenticity. College was a natural setting for Cath, not just a place she was put to appeal to an audience.

This story was really a weaving together of many minor plotlines that created a beautifully intricate overall plot. None of it felt contrived, or as though it had been thrown in for the sake of being thrown in.

This wasn't my favourite of Rowell's books, but nonetheless, it was gorgeously addictive and made me feel all of the feelings.

Yep, I still love this book. Sometimes rereading things, especially if it's been a while, can be disappointing, but it really wasn't this time. I loved it when I first read it, and I loved it this time again!

I think Cath is pretty annoying, but I also think that's a good thing. It makes her an actual character, that you don't always agree with her, but always can sympathize and understand her. The same is true for Wren, her sister. I can see both sides of their "argument", and I can see that they are both right and both wrong.

Levi is awesome. There were some things he said that bothered me, but mostly I really, really like him. And Reagan. I pretty much like all characters in this book, except for NDick.

It's also nice that the book club is back on track and that I get to write in books again! Nothing makes me feel like more of a rebel. F yeah! ( )
