I'm happy to see that the editor has listed ISF here in GoodReads since I don't have a good way of listing my magazine reading. I follow ISF regularly, along with World SF Blog and InterNova, for world SF. I enjoyed this issue: My favorite story in the issue was "The Death of Mr. Teodorescu": it has aspects of the Absurd that I very much enjoy. Aliette de Bodard's story was also enjoyable to read, except that I think the ending was a bit too oblique. I find that I enjoy her non-Aztec stories: I have had a difficult time getting into her Aztec material. The weakest story was the last one in the issue, "The Ethics of Treason": it's an alternate history story, but while the story is set in the alternate timeline, how it differs from ours is reported by one character. I just did not find this a very interesting story-telling technique. Also, I will grant that I had difficulty connecting the change in the pivotal historical event (Paraguayan-Brazilian war in the mid-late 1800s) with the alternate timeline: how it's different outcome prevented WWI and II was never clear to me. This may be because I am a North American of European descent and am weak on South American history. Alternate history may be a difficult genre to internationalize because of the need for some familiarity with the standard history on the part of the reader.
