This is such a cute story and I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy. This was actually a book that I was able to get my daughter to read and she has no interest in books. At this point, she has finished the trilogy and is just waiting on me to catch up. More than anything I loved the relationship between the 3 sisters. I wish my sisters and I had been more like the song sisters growing up. Also I loved the fact that this book is just so darn sweet and innocent! ( )

I have no excuses. I’ve owned To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han for years. Once again, I was afraid of the hype. I promise one day I will learn. I finally decided to read it once I learned Netflix was making it into a movie. I watched the trailer. I had to read it before the movie was released and non-book people started ruining it for us bookish peeps.

I adored Lara Jean Song Covey. She is exactly the kind of girl I wanted to be when I was her age. She will not be to everybody’s taste. Lara Jean is wholesome and completely innocent. She enjoys her family and baking. She’s quite content with her life...and then her love letters which were never meant to be mailed are mailed!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was completely charming. It was an easy book to read and I inhaled it. I love a good contemporary romance and this book delivered. Han drew me in with her easy writing and kept me with her humor, pacing, and a very assorted cast of characters. I also enjoyed the food! :) As a foodie I appreciate when an author clues us in on what’s happening with daily food.

As for the romance I don’t want to give too much away. It really worked for me. The next paragraph will be nothing but spoilers so you’ve been warned. It’s also hidden.

The Netflix trailer left out so many details that I was thrown for a bit. I was rooting for Josh based on the trailer. That was until I learned that Josh is Margot’s boyfriend! I get that Lara Jean had her crush before they got together but once I learned he was dating Lara's sister he was never a serious candidate. If you’ve got a sister (Hell even if you don’t!) you know that isn’t gonna happen. I really enjoyed how Han lets Peter slowly crawl into your heart. When I saw the young man behind the facade, it was hard not to love him.

For the last few chapters my heart raced back and forth frantically needing to know how it was all going to end. And then that cliffhanger ending! I almost dove right into P.S. I Still Love You but that almost always leads to book burnout. I will say that I am glad to have waited until all three books were published to start.

So I have heard of the Netflix movies of these books, but I haven't seen them yet. I found this book at Goodwill and thought why not? I can safely say that this is one of the best books I read. This book was itself rated PG13 and I cannot wait to pick up the next book!

This book was super cute and it had one of my favorite tropes: fake dating. It had a great family dynamic and I loved that it showed how what you see on the surface is not always true to what is going on underneath. I loved seeing Lara Jean grow in the year her sister went away to college from being the middle child to taking care of her family and truly maturing.

I will say, the book did end on a cliffhanger, and I regret not having the next book right there to start after I finished this one. This book was phenomenal, and it reminded me of a cute high school romance, and I wish more books could be like that. If you like romcoms, pick this book up, please! I can honestly give it 5/5 stars with no hesitations. ( )

diverse teen fiction (love triangle - Lara Jean is incidentally half-Korean/half-white). Sexual content includes only kissing (L.J.'s sister has, however, had sex with her long-term former boyfriend, as evidenced in a note he wrote to her), but L.J. has rumors that she has done way more circulated about her. I think there is also some mild language (maybe a "shit" here or there, not a lot). ( )

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is such a sweet and heartwarming book. It has its conflicts and its moments, but for the most part, my heart was so full with the slow flow of falling in love. There’s really nothing like falling in love for the first time, a fluttering that inspires so many cliches. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before captures it very well.

There are a lot of different relationships in this book and I find them interesting on all levels. First of all, Lara Jean and her sisters. There’s a different relationship between each of the three sisters. They’re nice sometimes and choice other times and all three of them are developed enough to feel individual. As far as sibling relationship go, this is a pretty good one.

Then, there’s Lara Jean and the various boys. This one is a bit more complex. I very much appreciated the breaking of individual stereotypes, but the love triangle was very… love triangle-y. As far as love triangles go I thought it was generally well developed. I liked Peter Kavinsky more than I thought I would. I also liked that nobody – especially the boys and especially the sisters – were perfect. And I loved that both Peter and Josh fell for Kitty. The relationship felt more rounded.

In general, the setting was really well done, too. Lara Jean was a high schooler in a YA book who actually went to class! Startling, I know. It was really easy to get immersed in this world because it felt a lot like the one I grew up in (albeit without cell phones, which really dates me, I know). To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is good because it feels possible. Sure, Lara Jean needed a push, but the day-to-day of the story and the flirting and series of small heartbreaks really well illustrated high school relationships.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the ending. There was nothing actually wrong with it, but from a personal perspective I just… wish it was a happier ending, you know? But this is a trilogy and there is plenty of time for happily ever after. Additionally, happily ever after doesn’t need to mean that the romance is a success – there are so many other ways to end with a positive spin. And I do feel like Lara Jean learned a lot throughout To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. But still. I was rooting for the love story, any love story. I wanted the butterflies.

If you were to ask me if I think you should read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, the answer is a resounding yes. This was such a feel-good book. I think the writing was excellent, the characters well-developed, the setting realistic, and the overall enjoyability of the book was great. ( )
