Is this a series that you can read out of order? No, not really. The overall plot arc is quite complicated and I recommend that you start from the beginning. However, this is a series about Knights in modern day…. Why wouldn’t you read it?

Lucan of Seacourt has been ordered to go find his Seraph, Chloe, at her dig to uncover the Veil of Veronica, the veil said to have been used to wipe the face of a dying Jesus Christ. Yes readers, there are some religious overtones to the book but, as it is fiction, the author has taken some liberties with the traditional stories but it works very well and I doubt there will be any offence taken. Anyhow, he goes to find her and finds, to his relief, that she isn’t a “crone” …yes, this word was used. Yes, it made me want to punch Lucan in the face. What isn’t to his liking is her attitude as she really doesn’t trust him or her attraction to him. He decides, much to my happiness, that he needs to woo her…and he is so cute about it! He is a complete gentleman to her and makes her feel a bit like a princess. Of course, once he gets the all systems go signal, he stops being such a gentleman and basically becomes one scorching hot knight. He is hot in the bedroom, protective in the face of danger and a complete knight in shining armor when he needs to be… I love’s. The “chosen for you” part of the process does take some of the romanticism out of the story but, as there is no “insta-mate” plot, it does make it a little bit more satisfying when it turns out those pesky angels were right!

Chloe is a pretty awesome heroine. She is completely focused on her work and the last thing she wants is to get hot flushes every-time the man, who is supposed to supervise her, comes close. When he starts to make advances she has to make some decisions. He is making life incredibly difficult for her on the dig for the Veronica but he is also giving her some amazing history lessons. It could be so easy to let him closer but the biggest issue is that Chloe has a secret; she sees demons. They follow her around and make her miserable but she can’t tell anyone. The only person who knows is her brother and even he thinks she is a little crazy. What she doesn’t know that Lucan already knows about the demons, but thinks she is covering them up because she is tainted by evil. Yes, ladies and gents, it is a case of secrets killing the relationship once again!! I suppose this is a difficult one to tell the man who is starring in all your x-rated dreams and I got where she was coming from. The major problem I had with her was that she was very slow to give her trust but very quick to take it away. He proved time and again that he was there for her but she just couldn’t believe in him…. I really was not happy with her at points of this story. He had to resort to divine intervention at points and that really annoyed me.

The story arc is about the eternal battle between good and evil. The fallen Angels want back into heaven and are very happy to do anything to achieve their goals. I do like the setting for this series and have enjoyed all installments so far. Lucan has been my favorite man so far but I’m looking forward to a certain tortured Knight’s tale even more….. Yum!

This series is about hunky knights who have a divine purpose and revere their chosen Seraphs’ like they walk on water. It is fast paced, interesting and utterly scrumptious …. *fans* ( )
