This book was like going home after a long time away. This series is just as strong now as it was with the first book.

In this 10th book in the series Angela Delvecchio who has been with LCR since the beginning finally gets her story. Angela has been LCR’s main researcher but has always had aspiration of being an operative. But when her parents fell on bad times and she was the sole provider for many years she couldn’t risk something happening to her. Then when tragedy strikes her whole family she lives in grief for a few years until she decides she wants to finally go on her first op.

Jake Mallory came to be with LCR after accidentally foiling a previous mission they were on. He was floundering around himself after tragedy had struck his life due to circumstances when he was a police officer.

Angela has been open and honest with Jake about her feelings for him but Jake refuses to ever let himself be vulnerable again to heartache. When the two are paired to go undercover together to try and bait a serial killer Angela is over the moon, Jake no so much as he is having a hard time trying to stick to his friend only rule.

This book had it all, suspense with a twisted serial killer, a sexy romance between two grief stricken people, and best of all, tons of face time with Noah and lots of characters from the previous book.

The ending was OMG – and you will just have to read it to find out what that means. ( )

Angela Delvecchio, LCR's computer genius and researcher, is ready to step out from behind the desk and pursue her dream of becoming an LCR field operative. She has the training, all she needs now is the chance to prove herself. She's paired with Jake whom she's lusted for since his first day at LCR. Unfortunately that attraction seems one-sided. What will working in close confines do to the both of them?

London is rocked by a horrific case of serial killings. The perpetrator, a modern day Jack the Ripper, has a type, and Angela fits the profile. It's the perfect opportunity for her to go undercover as a stripper and play the role of the bait.

Jake Mallory is stunned to learn that he'll be partnered with Angela to catch the Red Rose Killer. He can't let his lust for her cloud his judgement in the field. Any distraction could mean the difference between life and death. Can Jake keep Angela safe from the killer and from himself, or will history repeat itself and make him lose the one thing he didn't think he deserved? Love.

The last time I read an LCR book was at the end of 2011. Picking up Chances Are was like a reunion with old friends - it didn't take long to feel the familiarity with the beloved operatives. Though it helps to have read the previous books, this story can stand alone. Ms Reece did a great job of bringing back familiar faces and giving a little background history without a huge info dump.

I have read books 1-7 and loved each one. Ms Reece blends suspense and romance while burying the main characters in gritty plots that will test their skills and their emotions at every turn. Taking on themes involving kidnapping, murder and human trafficking, each book is a thrilling ride to the dark side and back.
Add to that a slew of sexy alpha males who are tough on the outside but display hidden vulnerabilities that make them swoon-worthy and heroines who can kick butt and you have a recipe for great chemistry.

I adored this pairing of Angela and Jake from the first page. Angela displayed determination, loyalty, stubbornness, but underneath it all she was a romantic girl at heart who dreamed of long walks, candlelight dinners and screaming orgasms. With no surviving family left, LCR was all she had left, so disappointing them was not an option. As a former military man and ex-cop, Jake has seen and experienced evil and betrayal, but nothing haunted him more than the death of his wife. Angela's innocence and vulnerability hold him back from making her his, but that doesn't stop him from finding everything else about her appealing.

The story was paced well and flowed smoothly. There are multiple POVs in this book: Angela, Jake, the killer and Noah, but I didn't find the switches distracting. Being able to get a glimpse into different character's heads enhances the reading experience, at least for me. The love scenes were passionate, romantic and HOT! Of course this story has it's fair share of emotional drama between Jake and Angela, with the mixed signals flying back and forth, but Angela makes huge strides in learning about the consequences of being over-confident, and Luke learns acceptance and forgiveness.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romantic suspense. If you enjoyed the KGI series by Maya Banks or Cindy Gerrard's Black Ops Inc. or Pamela Clare's I-Team series, then this series is definitely for you.

I really liked Angela's story and her character, but I though some times Jake put a cramp in her style with all his insecurities after her accident. The end was great for the series though. ( )

First Thought When Finished: Oh I loved being back in the world of Last Chance Rescue!

Story Thoughts: LCR is one of my favorite "worlds" to visit and it does feel like another place/time even though it is now! I love the idea that there are people risking their lives to save the women/children of the world that go missing. This was a bit different from the rest of the series, as they were tracking a killer. It was an interesting change of pace and overall it was an enjoyable ride. I was a little frustrated with the ending of the book (Epilogue), it felt like it just dropped off. That might have been Christy's evil plan though but it did make me wish for just a few more pages.

Character Thoughts: I have adored Angela from the beginning and was always hoping we would learn more about her. She is spunky, smart, and hard to put a finger on. It was nice getting to learn about her history, wants/needs, and how she ended up at LCR. She did not disappoint. I also really liked Jake for Angela. He had his own issues but he was strong enough for Angela. I always thought she deserved a very special guy and Jake stepped up to the plate. Seeing all the other LCR Alums (and the ones I am hoping are coming up) was great. For a fan of the series, this hit all the right character notes.

Final Thoughts: I hope Christy continues to publish stories from this world. I adore it! ( )
