This is a great summer read but I kept losing immersion wondering whether the publisher’s internal summary was “the Hunger Games at Hogwarts meets Percy Jackson”. ( ![]() This is an immensely well written story, but I found the world a tad hard to buy into. I really enjoyed the use of Roman deities, the exploration of the way people oppress each other, and how the institute was designed to teach the oppresser to keep himself on top of the societal hierarchy. I found the main character a little less than enjoyable to spend time with. Nobody wants to hangout with the guy that seems utterly perfect, you know? This is a pretty standard teen dystopian series. It's got the standard "everyone is a part of a different class/group" plot narrative. The divisions are based around colours, hence the name "Red" Rising. The book takes place on Mars but involves a world where humanity has colonized other parts of the solar system. A young man decides to fight the system that oppresses him with a freedom fighter/terrorist organization. This book has swearing, violence, and death so it might be geared toward older teen readers. CW: Death by hanging in a low gravity environment so family hang on their legs to make it happen more quickly Good fast paced plot. I am not much a fan of the dystopian genre, especially when the story dwells on the horrors of humanity, specifically in human manufactured circumstances, which this novel does do quite a lot. But there are glimmers that decency will prevail and I am curious to see how it turns out. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow and Reds like him, are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class. Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity's overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society's ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
