What they find beyond is the enchanted but war-ravaged world of Tir, a strange and dangerous land peopled by beings of magic. Here death waits at every corner, and the four new arrivals must learn to fight if they are to survive. And they'd better learn quickly, because the powerful Tyrant of the Wastelands, whose fearsome Death Legion stalks the land, will destroy anything and anyone standing in the way of his plan to become the overlord of Tir.… (més)

Another slightly disappointing book, I just wasn't pulled into the world, even though it displays some of my favourite tropes.

Four orphans living in a village are drawn together and then go up Slievenamann to face their destiny. When there they find themselves in another world in the hands of the Earth Mother who changes them to fit their destiny, entertainingly using their mobile phones for some of the raw material. The four have to learn to use their abilities to help this world defeat a great evil.

It didn't really draw me in nor did I really feel that I had any real connection with the characters. I felt that there could have been more and better here. Still not bad, just somehow lacked something for me. ( )
