Counting by 7's is an incredible book that talks about a girl with mental disabilities who is going through a lot in her life with the death of her parents to jumping around foster homes. She is challenged by people to do better and this book really showcases that. I see it being good for middle school aged students ( )

I absolutely loved this book. It had wonderful representation and inclusion with race and background but that was not what the story was about. It was about life and grief and different people coming together and leaning on each other and forming a family. I would love to have my class read this book together. ( )

This book is an interesting narrative that also incorporates themes of mathematics in the story. Willow Chance is a 12 year old girl who has an interest in medicine and gardening. She experiences a tragic event that alters her life. I will not spoil it in this review, but her story is definitely worth reading! I highly recommend this book either for yourself or for a classroom. The title of this book lets you know the importance of the number 7, where the main characters speak about different facts regarding this number (multiplication for example). This book is a great fit for a middle school classroom and focuses on at least two content areas. I felt this book was very well-written so I gave it a 5 out of 5 star rating. ( )

This book would be great for introducing prime numbers or multiplication since the main characters talks about different facts about the number 7. The book also goes through how the main character lost her parents but she grows to like her new family as they support her through her tough times. I like the message this book gives because it may be something that can help a student who is going through a tough time as well. ( )

Willow Chance is just a little bit different. Unlike most other twelve-year-olds, she is obsessed with medicine and is a master gardener to boot. One day when she arrives home from school she is met with a tragedy no child should ever have to experience. Willow's vulnerability, strength and charm as she struggles to make sense of the changes ahead of her, and her ability to draw kindred spirits into her orbit, are heartwarming. I initially checked this book out for my 11-year-old daughter. Though it didn't immediately grab her, it ended up being me who read it to fulfill a category in 2021's Read Harder challenge. ( )
