( ) When Sammy's father brings a massive green bathtub home from the flea market, the pirate-obsessed boy has a marvelous adventure, riding it out to sea, befriending a sea serpent, and battling some buccaneers. He returns just in time to greet his visiting Grandma, putting the spoils of his battle on the bathroom windowsill... Having greatly enjoyed the other two picture-books from New Zealand author Margaret Mahy and American illustrator Steven Kellogg - The Boy Who Was Followed Home and The Rattlebang Picnic - I picked up The Green Bath with anticipation. I found it entertaining, appreciating the imaginative journey that the boy makes in his bathtub - something with which I would imagine many children can identify. The accompanying artwork from Kellogg is colorful and fun, emphasizing the humor throughout. Recommended to picture-book readers who enjoy imaginative adventures and play, and to anyone looking for fun children's stories about bath time. Sammy is a boy that seeks adventure and while doing so he becomes dirty just before his grandmother is going to visit. His father brings home a new green bath tub and as they set it up, Sammy notices that the bath has human like characteristics and tells his mother, but his mother demands him to take a shower. As he takes a bath, he and the bath tub laugh and giggle as they enjoy each others company. The bath takes him on wondrous adventures like treasure island and the ocean where they try to take the bath from him but Sammy does not let that happen. As they return home his mother and grandmother notice that Sammy has brought treasure with him, so he takes his grandmother to shower her treasure island and all the places the green bath took him. Sammy's mother tells him to forget about adventures and get cleaned up for his grandmother's visit, but the new bathtub Sammy's father brought home seems determined to have an adventure of its own. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
