Originally, I bought this book because it was written by a former Chicago attorney. Chicago is under-utilized as a setting in crime books When purchasing, I half expected this to be a novel that I never read, being satisfied that I had supported a Chicago author. in between books, I gave the start a taste and was drawn in and pleasantly surprised to find a very solid debut. Abigail Donovan, a senior associate at a large Chicago law firm, is ensnared in an intrigue of police corruption and real estate fraud, after mistakenly taking the Green Line to the wrong side of Chicago. Diskin does a credible job of developing a believable criminal enterprise. The plot suffers some, towards the end, as the body count continues to grow. Abigail is a relatable, if not fully drawn, character. She has a noir background, involving the death of her brother, which haunts her into choosing the law as a profession. YA strains poke through. If here is 2nd book"David' and "Marcus" shirts may need to be printed. ( ) Abby, a lawyer on the rise to a prestigious partnership within a large Chicago law firm, has worked late and erroneously taken the wrong stop on the subway. Getting off, she is in a dangerous part of town and accidentally stumbles upon a crime in inner city Chicago. She contacts the police only to discovers that the police may be an integral part of the crimes being committed in that part of town. A suspenseful debut. The author created a real feeling of jeopardy for the lead character, Abby. You're thrown straight into the story right from the beginning, with the back story filled in on the way. You could understand her fears and frustration at not knowing whether someone was a good guy or a bad guy. Quite a few characters are introduced in the first chapters, and sometimes you're kept guessing for a while as to which side they're on. But once you know who's who the story flows well. There are 3 main characters, each narrating their thread of the story. But it is mainly told from Abbys' viewpoint. And she makes a real personal journey and seems more likeable/balanced at the end. If Abby has further adventures, I'd certainly be interested in reading them. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

But it's all about to change because of one misstep. One step onto a late-night train headed in the wrong direction. Headed into Chicago's west side, where gangs and violence and drugs fill the streets. In this engaging debut, E.C.
