Her clients look like goddesses, but instead of crash dieting and hours of cardio, her methods include lifting weights and eating liberal amounts of bacon Her eccentric approach to health and fitness is causing her reputation to grow, and new clients to seek her out. But when Jack walks through the door, things start to change. Not only is he the first male client she's ever had ... he's also a vegan. A tattooed, motorcycle-riding vegan with a smile to die for, but a vegan nonetheless. To make things even more complicated, a rival personal trainer with a vicious personality and a bad spray-tan is jealous of Jen's newfound success. He's willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means destroying Jen's reputation in the process. Although there were a few typos and the foreshadowing was often much too obvious, this novel was great fun to read! I enjoyed the main character's confidence & liked that she tried to resolve conflicts calmly. There were several laugh-out-loud moments and the story was, overall, very entertaining. ( )

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book from the first chapter to the last. The characters are everyday people whom you feel you know personally. And the storyline is different than most romances. The author has a unique way of writing. I would recommend this to anyone -and have. ( )

This is probably the first book that I have ever read that revolved around a gym and the world of personal trainers. I go to the gym myself (on occasion...lol) and I'm sure that I am not alone when I say that I have not had the best experience with the few trainers that I have come in contact with. Brad, for example, is in my humble opinion, the epitome of the typical stereotype of a personal trainer.... overbearing, arrogant, "no-pain-no-gain type, who treats his clients like dirt. Of course I did not like him - he is a dirtbag. Now, don't get me wrong, I am definitely not trying to say that ALL personal trainers are like this - I am just saying that in my own personal experience and from what you see portrayed in the media, etc....Brad is the common portrayal that we are accustomed to seeing.

Anyway, that being said, we have Jen, who is also a personal trainer. But, she is the type that people like me dream about. Someone who motivates, supports, and builds up her clients. Someone who knows that getting in shape is a constant struggle, and also knows that being humans, we are going to stumble in our climb to success. I really liked the positive way that she treated her clients, and was glad when she finally took control after being bullied by Brad for so long.

Bacon Girl was a quick, enjoyable read. It shows how a positive person can achieve success by building people up instead of tearing them down. If you get a chance, throw a copy in your gym bag and read it while you're racking up the miles on the stationary bike. I think you'll enjoy it ( )

I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. Overall, I found this an enjoyable book. I loved the way the author showed the reader how strong and confident a woman can be in herself. The personal trainer, Jen, was just such a woman. The one drawback I had about the book was the fact that it could have easily been about one quarter to one third shorter, and, if so, would not have dragged at all (it did a bit) and would have easily gotten the message across. Jen is a wonderful personal trainer, confident, easy to work with, personable, knowledgeable, and ready to help her clients or anyone else in any way possible. However, there is another trainer, Brad, who embodies everything we have come to detest about someone like him in this sort of a position: overbearing, conceited, arrogant, unbending, and full of ideas that no one achieves goals without suffering. He enjoys making and watching his clients struggle, belittling them when they do not meet his standards. In addition, his ideas about health and fitness are not really conducive to helping clients become healthier, fitter, stronger persons. In addition, as with any villain in any book, he is nasty, sneaky and will not worry about how low he must go to eliminate his rivals and take over training of anyone he can get to defect from their programs. The author did a very good job characterizing both Jen and Brad throughout the book. I grew to respect and admire Jen, while I grew to hate and despise Brad. The book presents the story of what happens when these two trainers go head to head, no holds barred, competing for clients and the satisfaction of being the best trainer. It was obvious that the author either has experience as a trainer or someone who works with health and wellness programs or did a lot of research for the book—or is just very passionate about this subject. I liked the fact that the author dispelled many of the myths people have about wellness and exercise in such an easy to read method, without seeming to lecture on and on. The one reason I am rating this book at four stars rather than five stars is the fact that, as I said, I think the book could have been shorter and not dragged quite so much. However, if you enjoy reading about strong confident female main characters while learning a thing of two about health and fitness, this book should go on to your reading list. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. ( )

First of all, yes, this book will leave you craving bacon (unless, of course, you don't eat pork). That being said, this is a fun, quick read that's perfect for pool-side reading, killing time at the doctor's office or on your daily commute, or bed-time reading. Jen is a female personal trainer who is being bullied and slandered by one of the male personal trainers at the gym where she works. I found myself frustrated with the arrogant Brad, and when Jen finally stands up to him once and for all, I wanted to hug the girl. Patricia Blair created solid, believable characters, both ones you'll love and ones you'll hate. And even though it's a fictional book, Blair is obviously knowledgeable in the area of nutrition science and I bet that a lot of what you read could be incorporated into your everyday life. *disclaimer that this is just my opinion and not medical advice* I can't wait to see what Blair comes up with next.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )
