This book is so so so good I can't wait for the next book! ( )

Peer pressure made me do it, I suppose. I wonder if it would have landed better with me if it hadn't been so hyped up on social media everywhere I looked? Or if I hadn't read it so close on the heels following A Song of Achilles? Or if I hadn't spent so many formative years reading trashy romances whose skeletons I could see hiding behind the trappings of this book? No way to know on any of that, I suppose. I did appreciate the revelation of the curse's specifics that explained why Tamlin was falling all over himself for Feyre--not because she was some violet-eyed self-insert of a Mary Sue, but because she fulfilled the terms for which he'd been waiting. (Side note: was there even a real treaty clause about this in the first place, or was that a lie to explain why he'd brought her back? Now unclear.) And the others' similar reactions were all based on that or her importance to Tamlin, not because she was a Super Special Girl, which was beginning to feel like the case and which gets cloying fast.

Anyway, it was entertaining, but I wouldn't call it an exceptional book or claim to be hooked on it. I'll likely read at least one more of the books in the series, mostly out of curiosity about how the blatantly obvious, dubiously-consensual-at-best, mating is going to backfire on Tamlin. ( )

This book was rather entertaining. I picked it up after seeing it all over instagram and what not to see what all the hype was. I found it enjoyable but I don't get all the rage over it (unless the series itself gets better in the following books). It was good and seemed well written. There were a few instances that I did not quite follow but after reading the second one they make more sense. I guess that being said, to fully enjoy the first book the following books would be good to read as well. I prefer stand alone books a majority of the time as a series that is to long can get stale (in my opinion). ( )

Almost made the lower three stars, but just not quite. Starts right off with one of my least favorite fairy-tale tropes : that every female other than the MC has to be 1. a useless burden, 2. nasty and cruel, or 3. dead - but that's all. Couldn't believe her falling in love with the guy. In the last half? third? the action picks up and it got more enjoyable, but I almost put it aside and stopped several times before that. It was very smooth writing, but I'll never go back and read it again. ( )

Not bad. A bit tropey and heavy on the romance for my typical reading, but I really liked the world and some of the characters. ( )
