Galatea makes you feel truly empathetic to her situation and the injustices that happen to her, but she is not passive and makes choices for her own destiny. I think this is a very quick read with its most important part being the discussion that can happen afterwards. Galatea is a very quick read from Madeline Miller, if you have read any of her other books and enjoyed them, I have no doubt you will enjoy this one as well. If you enjoy mythology, and feminist retellings of mythology in particular, like Miller’s other books, Jennifer Saint’s books, and others, this is one for you. I have had this short story on my list for a while so when I saw it was getting reprinted into this gorgeous little pocket edition from Waterstones, I immediately pre-ordered it. The writing is just as descriptive and immersive as in Miller’s other books and the main character, Galatea, is another complex rendering of a character from mythology that didn’t get to see too much light of day before now. I loved it and can’t wait for whatever Miller does next. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
In ancient Greece, a skilled marble sculptor has been blessed by a goddess who has given his masterpiece-the most beautiful woman the town has ever seen-the gift of life. After marrying her, he expects Galatea to please him, to be obedience and humility personified. But she has desires of her own and yearns for independence. In a desperate bid by her obsessive husband to keep her under control, Galatea is locked away under the constant supervision of doctors and nurses. But with a daughter to rescue, she is determined to break free, whatever the cost... No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
