There are two fundamentally different approaches to living life in relation to God. The first approach is to jump up and down, trying to impress Him. The second is to relate to Him on the basis of grace. Though the first approach makes sense at first glance (since it is the way we get noticed), it comes with a whole load of baggage: guilt, shame, fear, pride. The way of grace is more subtle but is the way God actually has chosen to work. Grace is like breathing clean air. When you are surrounded by grace you flourish. Graceless living is like breathing carbon monoxide. You may not even realize it is killing you spiritually until it is too late. These reflections are easy to read, and often entertaining. But they are full of wisdom ' and will show you how to live in the grace of Christ, day by day.… (més)

I read 40 Days of Grace by Rich Miller for honest review from Kregel Blog Tours. I received a paperback copy of the book.
The book is a 40 day workbook on grace. The sections are organized by weeks and then days.

Week 1 Amazing Grace
Week 2 Canceling the guilt trip
Week 3: From Disgrace to Grace
Week 4 From fear to faith
Week 5 The power of humility
Week 6 The grace-rest life.
God provides us grace so we don't have rely on ourselves. Ephesians 2, verses 8 to 9 says:

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast (p. 15). The book also says Grace plus Faith equals salvation from sin and the penalties of sin (p. 15)

Other things the book says about grace:
God's grace must be received by faith. (p. 16 I think).
Grace is God freely giving us what we don't deserve...
God gives us freedom to fail (p. 27)
God never gives up waiting for us to return back to him (p. 28)
It is possible to do all the right things for the wrong reasons (p. 39).
God's grace helps us turn away from sin daily (p. 43).
Grace gives us the power to forgive (p. 44).
Love involves grace because grace is from God (p. 49).
Grace rescues us from guilt (p. 51).

I struggle with guilt over past mistakes. Even though I have learned from some of them, I still feel regret, guilt, and shame. I also struggle with understanding grace.

The beginning of each chapter provides a story, such as the author meeting his wife in Day 1. The end of each chapter gives a thoughts, truths, questions, and a talk with God. Each day is a short read with life-changing guidance.

40 Days of Grace ~ Discovering God's Liberating Love by Rich Miller is a Christian faith based course that shows us how to recognize, accept and keep accepting the wondrous grace that God bestows upon us each and every day.

The book is arranged into 40 daily devotionals that are short, funny, direct and inspirational. Each chapter contains the daily topic, sound Biblical references as well as follow up for the reader to ponder and explore - A Thought to Chew On, A Truth to Remember, A question to Mull Over and Talking it Over with God.

I found 40 Days of Grace to be well written, funny, informative and inspirational! It's available in both paperback or kindle.

Many thanks to Kregel for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review. ( )

Title: 40 Days of Grace (Discovering God’s Liberating Love)
Author: Rich Miller
Pages: 256
Year: 2013
Publisher: Monarch
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John 1: 17 NASB)
As the title suggests, this is a 40-day devotional written with a heart of understanding with splashes of laughter along the way. There are moments of serious contemplation of the choice to change our walk in the spiritual terra firma. God didn’t make robots; He offers us choice just as He did to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden so long ago. Let’s just face it; none of us likes change even if it produces a deeper walk with God. Change is never easy and frankly sometimes it is downright painful, especially when those around us may not want us to do anything different. Change is costly and it may cost us friends and family relationships, because as we change it sometimes causes others to see what they would rather not and vice versa. Change can bring a freedom we haven’t known before, and a closeness to God our souls have long desired.
Some of what I stated above is really from personal experience as I don’t want to review this devotional with you without being real. Each day the reader will be introduced to stories woven from the author’s experience along with those of Scripture. Then, there are thoughts to ponder, questions that lead to examining ourselves, and a prayer. All human beings desire to be loved, noticed and considered valuable or the apple of someone’s eye that trumps everything else. Here is a devotional that lets us know He does cherish us, love us, and we are the apple of His eye. We don’t have to understand those truths to believe them. We exercise our faith muscles here because we know God cannot lie.
One thought directly from the book I would like to share with you from page 13, “You will find quite a few forks in the road as you travel. The best path to take is not always easy, but it is wise.” Jesus’ life, death and resurrection showed us just how true that statement is. It wasn’t easy for Him, but He chose it not for Himself, but for you and me. He came for us; He will return for us again. Only our fleshly nature demands things to be easy. That is why our spirit and flesh are always fighting. Walking closely with God is something God wants for us. We have to choose whether to walk with Him or not. Do we really want an easy way to living for God? Yes, we do. Is the easy way real or satisfying? No! I personally never want to stop growing closer to Him until my last breath. What about you?
My rating is 4 stars.

Many of us have grown up with a distorted image of God. We’ve grown up believing we have to earn God’s favor to get to heaven. We believe that the way to God’s heart is to earn His love. We strive to be “good enough”.

In 40 Days Of Grace – Discovering God’s Liberating Love, Rich Miller shows us there is a better way.

Grace. Some of us say grace at mealtime… some of sing about Amazing Grace… some of us even know one or two people named Grace… but how many of us truly understand the biblical concept of grace and just how liberating it really is?

Consider 40 Days Of Grace a biblical study on the concept of grace, written in a devotional format, by the man who co-authored The Grace Course itself.

40 Days Of Grace contains 40 daily readings that explain the major Bible passages on grace in an easy-to-understand, relevant way. The author also discusses many of the major issues we struggle with when it comes to applying the concept of grace to our lives – things like fear, works, father wounds, shame, and a whole lot more!

In addition to lots of Scriptures to study and real life examples to relate to, the author includes A Thought To Chew On, A Truth To Remember, A Question To Mull Over, and a concluding prayer in each reading.

Although this is a great devotional, this book would also work well in a small group setting where you could explore the concepts and discussion questions with others.

In 40 Days of Grace, through parables and provoking questions, principles and proverbs, Rich Miller brings the amazing, nearly unbelievable Grace of God down to a common-sense, day-by-day level. Taking higher-ground truths and placing them in laymen's terms with basic application, showing every Christian how to forgive others and themselves, change their view of how God views them and allow Grace to flow through every area of your life.
The end result?
Complete transformation. ( )
