Oblivion by Kelly Creagh was a dark, twisted, must-read YA novel.

I'm heart broken because I'm pretty sure this novel was the finale of this series. While I hope Kelly Creagh continues this universe on into more books, I highly doubt she will due to the way the story ended. There were still many questions left to be answered, and there were still many moments readers wanted to and probably will never see.

I wanted way more of Varen in this book. Everyone I spoke to about this book (within my friend circle) all complained about the lack of Varen - and this didn't get cleared up in this novel. He was a major part of this story, and he was just lacking. I adore his characters, and he's one of my top YA male characters out there - he's different, not your normal romantic interest, and he's darker than the average character. So I loved him, and my heart was left to be shattered.

Kelly Creagh's writing is memorizing, and I demand more novels by her!! She's one of the few authors that can write in such a dark tone and yet be incredibly addicting. She's not scary, she's alluring with her writing!!

Her take on Edgar Allen Poe's story is a great adaption. While seeing every fairy tale be retold over and over, I liked seeing a take on another great work. His dark poems were woven perfectly into this trilogy and novels, and I highly suggest people pick it up!!! Kelly deserves the support!!

Overall, I loved this series. It's sad to see this series end, but the bittersweet feelings will go away when I see another fantastic title by Kelly Creagh end up on book shelves.

Five out of five stars. ( )

After years and years of waiting, finally Kelly Creagh has finished the series that got me obsessed with reading (waaaay back in the day!)

This story was excellent, and it was a long awaited book for me. For years I was anxious for this book to come out, and I almost thought it might never make it to the publisher or printing office! But luckily this novel has FINALLY been released, and I loved it!

The novel was dark and twisted, which I expected due to the source material being the fantastic Edgar Allen Poe. Kelly does an amazing job at entertaining Poe's works with this series, and I applaud her work. The work was worth the wait!

The book does tie up most loose ends, and I didn't feel like anything was left out. It also felt like it was the perfect length! (Even if I do want to see more of these characters, it ended perfectly!)

I don't have anything against the novel, other than the long waiting period. I almost forgot everything that happened in the previous works, so I had to do a quick review of the previous novels. But, Kelly probably had a reason for taking so long (not just to torture the anxious, addicted readers).

Everyone should pick up this novel, in my opinion. Not only is it a great twist on Poe, it is an excellent adventure with a splash of romance, and is beautifully written in a dark context.

I loved it!

Five out of five stars!!! ( )

Have I said that I love Edgar Allan Poe?!? Cause I feel like I might need to say it again. It was a satisfying ending to this trilogy and I love how we find out more about certain characters and their origins. I can't really say too much more that would give it away other than, I'm thinking Ms Creagh could continue their stories into the future... ( )

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales (http://darkfaerietales.com/)

Quick & Dirty: Dark and imaginative story that starts off a bit slow but wraps up this story in such an action-packed satisfactory way. I highly recommend this series.

Opening Sentence: “I beg of you to hear me, Helen!”

The Review:

Oblivion is the third and final book in the Nevermore series. I would not recommend reading this book without reading the first two in the series but I wholeheartedly recommend this series. All these books were great and entertaining dark reads in a world that was very creative and imaginary. I really loved how Kelly Creagh infused Edgar Allen Poe’s work into this dreamlike but very real otherworld. Do not continue reading if you don’t want the first two books in this series spoiled for you.

Nearly one month has passed since Isobel almost died. I would like to say her life has gone back to normal but it really hasn’t. She is finally going back to school but she still avoids her old cheerleading friends. She even tries to stay away from Gwen since she feels so guilty about leaving her behind in Baltimore. She has been forced to see a psychiatrist about her behavior. Also, she is no longer allowed to be outside of her parents’ presence unless she is at school.

The one thing that doesn’t change are Isobel’s feelings towards Varen. She wants to forget him but she can’t. Let me tell you, that letter she writes to Varen was so emotional and real. I had to read that letter several times because of that love she was holding out for and the emotional pain that she was going through to try and justify her feelings.

Oblivion may start off a little slow easing Isobel back into normal life. Once the action begins and Isobel is once again thrust into the otherworld, it is crazy non-stop for well over half the book. I felt the story was so intense because I had no idea what was going to happen. Especially, the way strange things kept happening and how Varen kept treating her.

Isobel starts off this novel a little broken, hence the emotional letter to Varen but instead of completely giving up on him. She still wants to save him. She is still frightened by the Nocs but she manages to stand her ground against them, including the very frightening Lillith. (Lillith who needs Varen’s help to return to the “real” world.) But I really have to give props to Isobel for standing her ground and knowing that it is all or nothing this time. Her one last chance to save the world and Varen. She feels really bad for the rift that she has caused with her parents but saving Varen is something she feels she must do.

Varen is still crazy sexy in his goth, broody way. He is absolutely devastating with the power he know welds. His self-destructiveness goes into overdrive after what he thought he did in the previous novel.

As a whole, I loved this entire series. I have already recommended to a friend who is loving it as well. There are a few things that I didn’t quite agree with and one thing that I was for sure wouldn’t play out the way it did, but I wouldn’t ask for anything to change. I can see where people still wouldn’t like how Isobel is ruining herself over a guy but I loved it in this story. Plus, I found it a story of redeeming a guy who didn’t think he was worthy of redemption or love.

Notable Scene:

“You can’t go,” she said. “Not yet. I still need your help.”

“I have helped you,” the Noc replied. “And will yet. You’ll see. We were sleep-flying before you woke us up. Practicing what we’ve learned, crossing thresholds while trying our best not to wake you before you were ready to see us as we really are—holes and all. And what the crow has seen, the pigeon knows. Besides, you heard Fossil Face. I think you know as well as I do that it’s better for the both of us – for all of us, really – if we . . . if I don’t stick around. Though first I must attest that old scribble-necked codger is a great fat liar. That drawn-out bit about begging?” The Noc folded his arms. “Never happened.”

Isobel shook her head. “You’re making even less sense than usual.”

“Item number one,” the Noc said, ignoring her. He withdrew several steps, striding directly through the repeating memory of Madeline. As if the memory had been composed of smoke, the entire image disappeared, swirling away to once more reveal the interior of the white chamber. “Goodbye, cheerleader.”

She started after him, alarm spurring her forward. “Wait—“

“Item number two,” he said as he lifted his arms out to either side, “you should know that, as far as we can—the boy and I, that is – as much as we allow ourselves –“

“Don’t.” Isobel broke into a run.

“We really do—“

“Pinfeathers, stop!” she yelled.

“—love you.” This he said while tilting backward, tipping toward the floor.

FTC Advisory: Kelly Creagh gracioulsy provided me with a copy of Oblivion. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. ( )
