I loved it one of my friends made Me a list of books to read and this series was on top now I see why Received from NetGalley in exchange for a review This was one of those stories that I finished and went straight to Amazon to find the rest in the series and add them to my wish list. I am a quick reader so I think I devoured Beg in about 30 minutes and loved every minute of it. Reiss writes characters that are believable, funny and real. I can't wait to read more of this series as well as the other "songs." So I really liked this story... Until I realized the horrible truth. It's part one of a serial. You know those annoying as hell book series that have been popping up lately that are actually just one book, but they stretched it out to you have to pay for it over several books and end up paying more than the price would have been for just a single novel? Yeah. When I realized this, I was quite disappointed because I wanted to know what happened with Monica and Jonathan, and Darren, and Gabby. I like them as characters because they feel real, and I got invested in the short amount of time that I was able to read them. But this whole serial style of writing is pissing me off. Since I didn't plan on buying the rest of them out of protest, I'm going to be borrowing them from someone to finish the series. I don't want to spend money to support this kind of publishing non-sense, but since they have already paid for it, I don't feel bad about reading them. And I want to know what happens, damnit! Copy courtesy of eXcessica Publishing, via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a short and quick review for a short and quick first episode of the Songs of Submission serial. Monica is a struggling musician, having sworn off men to focus on her dreams. Her bandmates include a bassist with a nervous stomach (Henry), a suicidal pianist/keyboard player (Gabby), and her ex-boyfriend on the drums (Darren). Monica finds herself tangled up with bazillionaire Jonathan Drazen, a sexy and dominant corporate mogul. Tensions builds for a bit before we get some hot and steamy smexytime. C.D. Reiss can certainly craft a story and set a scene. I was able to imagine the songs/lyrics that she described Monica singing and even found a great cover of Under My Skin. Her characters were real and had depth, even the secondary characters. That is no easy feat to accomplish in only 100 pages. I think that Jonathan is going to be a particularly engaging character - he is broody and vulnerable - and someone I would love to get my hands on and "fix"! So I really have nothing going in the story (so far) that I don't like. But honestly, story aside, I don't like that it's a serial. There are 9 episodes of this serial at a cost of $2.99 to $3.99 each. That's $30 for one story. I have a hard time paying that for a single story, even if each installment is 100 pages - that's way to expensive even for a book that I really like. When you read as much as I do, it would put me in the poor house to pay $30 per 900 pages. If only these were available at the library. Le sigh. Luckily I got the first book for free (on Jan. 29, 2015)... and maybe I can get someone to loan me some of the others because I do want to see where the story is going. 4 stars / 4 flames. This novella is the first in a series, and is about 22K words.Part 2 will be released at the end of February 2013--------------------------My name is Monica. I'm a singer born and raised in Los Angeles. I've stopped dating. When I cut a record, or win a Grammy, maybe then I'll be with someone, but every man in my past has done everything he could to make me submit myself to him, and it's gotten in the way of my career. I won't do it again. But there's Jonathan. He owns the high-rise hotel where I work, and he is gorgeous and charming. I refuse to fall in love with him, even though when he asks me to submit to him, I want nothing more.****GRAPHIC LANGUAGE, SEX, AND ADULT SITUATIONS**** No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
