"He was their family. They were his. They were worth every cut and bruise and scream."

The Raven King turns up a notch on it's tone, bringing a much darker and heavier narrative without being dissonant from the previous book.

The themes explored are very raw and not sanitized at all, portraying the complex way each of the characters deal with their own trauma. They are messy, and awful, and problematic, and many times make awful decisions, because each of them has different lines, morals, and experiences. Just like real people.

Neil Josten's narration is incredibly unique. Extremely dramatic and with skewed priorities, his personality shines in how and what he chooses to describe, managing to keep the reader engaged from petty interrelationship drama to bloody mafia life-or-death situations. ( )

This book is not a standalone, and you need to read [b:The Foxhole Court|17259690|The Foxhole Court (All for the Game, #1)|Nora Sakavic|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1358594228l/17259690._SX50_.jpg|23855134] first.

This book significantly progresses our understanding of the three main characters - Neil, Andrew and Kevin.

There is on-page trauma, and there is no denying that this series is dark. It is violent in pretty much every way it can be, up to and including torture and rape.

I got completely enthralled with these characters, all of them, in the first book and quickly moved on to the second book. After this one, you'll need to read [b:The King's Men|23594461|The King's Men (All for the Game, #3)|Nora Sakavic|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1417587954l/23594461._SX50_.jpg|43196898].

The romance in the series is the slowest burning romance ever. It takes time for that relationship to develop, and I think it's incredibly well done. By the end of the third book, you'll be satisfied with what the author has managed to achieve.

I highly recommend this series. It's dark, but it's so rewarding. And although none of the three books are standalone, as a trilogy it is complete. ( )

I can't even begin! There is a moment in this book where I just straight up ugly cried. I stayed up till 7am to finish this book. It is everything I wanted out a third book. I have never been so emotionally wrecked by a book series! This is good thing! ( )

Finished reading The Foxhole Court and then immediately started this sequel. Im honestly not sure why this story has drawn me in so much but I haven't got bored with anything Ive read so far. This book did get pretty wild plot wise though, and also a lot more intense in terms of subject matter.

The series focuses on a team of people who haven't had the easiest time in life, and while the first book spends much of its time introducing the main character and setting up the story The Raven King gives a closer look at the rest of the team. Mental illness and trauma play a big part in these books, and even though I think they are handled relatively well they are still hard to read about sometimes.

Story wise I was on the edge of my seat the whole time (figuratively speaking anyway. Literally speaking I was lying on the couch with my dog). Some of it got a little over the top, but I think it works within the world the author has created. The sport the characters play is made up (kinda like, racquetball lacrosse?) so it didnt bother me that other aspects of our real world were changed a bit as well. It was an exciting book and I couldn't put it down. ( )
