This is a good example of the sort of sex education paperback that appeared before the explosion that occurred in this genre in the early 1970s. As such it is remarkably explicit, although its approach is dated, having been superseded by developments in the understanding of sexuality and changes in both legislation and social morality. It describes a wide sweep of the less usual practices in sexual interactions, both within and between the sexes, and on the whole the author's preferences only slightly impinge on the objectivity of the review. Some brief case studies are offered, with some comments giving the author's opinions regarding sadism and masochism in individual activities. Things have changed so much, however, that these days most people will disagree with the author, although it is true to say that such disagreements are often divergent. ( )
