No puede decirse que el debut en el cuerpo policial londinense de Anna Travis, joven investigadora e hija de un querido ex miembro del cuerpo, sea precisamente fácil. Las piezas no encajas en una serie de asesinatos que tienen en común el mismo modus operandi, pero distintos perfiles de las víctimas. Además, Anna debe demostrar a su jefe, el escéptivo inspector Langton, que su juventud no es un obstáculo para convertirse en una extraordinaria investigadora. La perspicacia de Anna ayuda a encontrar la pieza que faltaba para encontrar un móvil y un asesino. Pero, ¿qué ocurrirá cuando esa pieza apunte a Alan Daniels, un guapo y consagrado actor que la opición pública adora y del que la propia Anna podría enamorarse?

This was an odd book in a lot of ways. The procedural aspect was strong and I enjoyed how the case was investigated. The romance sucked and would've been better for either excluding it or giving her someone unattached. The characters weren't as developed as I would've liked considering the 400 odd pages to slog through.

Langton was a hot mess and for all he was a good detective I just plain didn't like him. Anna was not a hot mess exactly, but she was also not very strong in her mental fortitude or resilience. I kind of expect my female protagonists to be more badass.

The rest of the office is pretty much ignored beyond there are other officers working there. So I never really felt I got to know any of them and they were barely distinguishable from each other. One female can't get a sandwich without tomatoes, the other female isn't made to get lunch, one male has a newborn baby and the other male does not.

Overall, it's not a bad start to a series - just depends on your expectations. I'll likely pick up the next one - I did really enjoy the procedural part - and hopefully the romance either gets better or goes away. 3.5 stars. ( )

Anna Travis's Dad was a great detective. But, now he's gone and Anna is a rookie in a squad who knew her Dad. And someone is killing women. And then it turns out that the prime suspect is a fairly well known actor who really does not seem the type at all. LaPlante wrote Prime Suspect which is great BBC TV. She knows how to tell a story and this sure does not disappoint., ( )

Gripping, a bit gruesome at times but a definite pageturner (but I read it as an audio book commuting) ( )

Had me captivated from the start. Found it to be an really good read ( )
