Beekle is an imaginary friend that finds himself alone. No one is able to see him and he tries his best to find someone to be his friend. Until the very end when he is about to give up he met Alice and they became best friends. This book is a good for a classroom that needs a book about friendship and kindness. ( )
Beekle and Alice make the perfect team! Dan Santat finds a way with this adorable picture book to draw out the important of friendship, imaginary or not. The illustrations of Beekle are unassuming and simple, yet demonstrate the simplicity of having a friend. Santat shows how easy it is to get caught up in being adults and to lose the wonder and desire to have someone to share life with. Creative and hear-warming this book captures the essence of friendship and imagination in the lives of all people.
Beekle is lonely. He is meant to have his very own imaginary friend; but as patiently as he waits, they don't come. In order to find his long lost companion, Beekle travels to the "real world". He feels out of place until in a the busy streets of a city, he notices other monsters. He follows them to a big park where other monsters and their imaginary friends, children, are playing together. However, after wandering around, Beekle cannot find his friend. Feeling discouraged, he climbs a tree. Then, he hears a voice call from below. A little girl passes him a note in the form of a drawing of him in the tree with her looking up at him, and a friendship begins. It doesn't take long for them to discover their favorite hobbies and explore together.
This book flips the narrative of the child with the imaginary friend to an imaginary monster searching for his child friend. This switch is more engaging for students and they loved the cute monster cartoon wearing a crown. The illustrations could be Pixar animations and it would be a smash at the box office. Highly recommend for K -5.
Vivid, imaginative illustrations with plenty of details to discover and a short, energetic text make The Adventures of Beekle an excellent story time read. For my own reading experience, though, I found the story began rather better than it ended and wished for a conclusion that didn't feel quite so rushed or flat.
This book tells the story of an imaginary friend named Beekle who is trying to find his friend. The illustrations in this book are really colorful, and they help tell the story in an engaging way. I would say that this would be a great book to read to primary students and it is a great way to teach them about friendship! I think it could also be a good book to have in your library for independent reading in intermediate classrooms as well.
