S'està carregant… The Resistance Mande Martin Walker
This 6th book in the Bruno Courrèges series was not quite as charming as some of the previous books but was still a fun read. Some aspects of the mystery were a bit predictable though I loved the background about the "great train robbery" of the Resistance and the hints that the money stolen was used as a front for U.S./CIA funding of various French election campaigns. And it looks like Walker has finally resolved the triangle between Bruno, Isabelle and Caroline, though the manner of its resolution made me sad for Bruno. Ahem, there are more scenes related to food than to the mystery. Sympatique, but not really a mystery book. Good one! Very satisfactory! As always good characters, engaging mystery, great food, wonderful sense of place. I had inklings from early on and felt great when they proved true. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

Bruno, chef de police, can't get a moment's peace. He's uncovered a cache of old bank notes and is also dealing with a wave of burglaries. The victims include the recently retired head of Britain's Joint Intelligence Committee, which brings old flame Isabelle back to St Denis. The next burglary ends in murder: the victim's bludgeoned body found by his lover - the prime suspect. But Bruno is on another track. Meanwhile, the Mayor introduces Bruno to Jacqueline, who is researching the theory that American funds were used to prevent Communism in France, which led the US to give clandestine support to the nuclear program. When Jacqueline's home is subsequently burgled, the stakes become much higher. Jacqueline's work, suggests the Mayor, is political dynamite. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

It’s a decent murder mystery surrounding the brutal beating of a gay man who is a British antiques dealer with associates in France. A side story is the death of an elderly man who was a resistance fighter in WWII and may have been a train robber. Bruno has many meals with his friends and associates where fine local wines and meats, fish and produce are deliciously described. Ok story (
