(  ) nwieme | Mar 19, 2020 | This is the fourth book out of seven in Archer's Clifton Chronicles series. The series follows multiple generations of a family through the 20th Century. This book takes place in the early 1960's. Each of the books ends with a cliffhanger so I'm glad I didn't start to read the series until Archer was finished writing it. The Clifton/Barringtons are successful people with talented offspring and plenty of enemies who want to see them fail. That’s pretty much the plot of all the books in the series and it’s an entertaining story. It's not great literature but it's the book version of a good (and pretty) television miniseries. I really enjoyed the financial games that were crucial to one of the big turning points in this book. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next with this family. I'm not sure whether the glass-in-fish-paste episode was necessary, as it doesn't add anything to the story.
Despite all its flaws, this series is quite an entertainer and I'm off to read the next book in the line! (
