This book introduces us to some new characters… Manon and the Thirteen, Rowen Whitethorn, as well as our favorites, Chaol and Dorian. The action is fast-paced, and we get a glimpse at what and who Aelin will become. I have been listening to the audiobooks for the series, and I really enjoy the narration. They are very dynamic and exciting. I highly recommend! With each book i read i'm falling more and more in love with the story. And each book comes with a all new level of writing, much more improved. I'm still @ the beginning but i'm enjoying everything so far. No complaints whatsoever! I am loving this series. We learned more about Celeana's origins after she flees to Wenlyn where magic still works and the fae still live. It seems the fae queen Maeve has her own agenda. Celeana hones the power that manifested in the previous book. And there's a new man in her life, or rather a male fae. Trying hard not to spoil anything ... so skip this paragraph if you don't want to know. I thought the relationship between Celeana and Aelin was forced and resolved far too quickly. It didn't feel as genuine as her relationship with Chaol. So I was very disappointed with it. It wasn't up to par with the rest of Maas' writing. It felt like a plot point that had to be reached rather than an organically evolved relationship. The book ends with Caleana ready to face her destiny. But rather than go to the next book in the series it was recommended that I read Assassin's Blade next, so that's what I'll do. Heir of Fire is the third book of Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series. Celaena is now in a new land and without her friends. To uncover the answers she needs she must train with Fae warrior Rowan and obtain his approval to meet with Fae Queen Maeve. However, the King of Adarlan has other priorities that come crashing in around Celaena as she trains and tries to learn about her past. The Lovely: The characters. As with the first and second book, I still find the best thing to be the characters and their relationships with each other. Celaena continues to develop and Rowan was a well-rounded character (at least once you got past the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book. The Mundane: The tension just wasn’t there. Normally a book this length I would be done with in 2 days, this took me 4 days. Given this book was only the third in the series, we knew Celaena would survive and get what she wanted. This made some of the scenes just not as exciting as they should have been. The Dreadful: This book three basically feels like a re-hash of book one. Celaena again has to train (and perform) to prove herself to get what she wants. And again she’s being trained by a guy who has power over her, and is a love interest. This made the book boring and formulaic. Rating: 3/5 Stars Recommendation: While you can’t exactly skip this book (because future events build on what was learned), it’s not a thrilling read. There were parts of it I liked and I did come to like the relationship between Celaena and Rowan, I don’t think he’s an overly reliable (or stable) guy. Still shipping Chaol and Celaena. Alright so can I just say that I did not expect to get so sucked into this series. I mean just on principle I like to hate popular things (haha) but this series is so beautifully written that I can't help but love it. Celaena is probably one of my favorite female characters that I have read. She is this strong personality but she is also flawed, and doesn't pretend that she isn't. What I truly enjoyed about this one is that things have begun to branch out more now that Celaena is away from Dorian and Chaol. So we have two alternate stories happening with our lovely trio, but we also get some new characters making for more plot lines. I think each of them are so well written that they could be books on their own. I have enjoyed the introduction of the witch clans in this one and I feel like they fit into this space in the story that we haven't gotten to completley yet, but when we do it's going to monumental.
Seeing the way our trio has changed has led to some moments of in my feels. Dorian and Chaol are each battling their own issues, which tie into the larger picture of magic and the king. Celaena has gone off and found a way to get answers about the magic the king is using, and in the process she is learning to unlock a hidden part of herself. I must admit that this book has been the most interesting for me. I loved every moment of it. I actually ugly sobbed a couple of times. So much happens in this one that just feels so earth shattering. Watching the gang grow and getting new additions to the story really keeps everything moving along. I am dying to know what happens next because Celaena just seems to become more and more of a force to be reckoned with as the series progresses. (
