Space reserved for future review ( ) Very interesting book, and a great read now that football season is coming to a close. The author takes concepts like the Butterfly Effect, the Uncanny Valley, and Schrodinger's cat and relates them to football in ways that don't seem like a stretch. As someone who has read quite a bit about Bill Walsh I still enjoyed the this interesting take on the science behind the West Coast offense. In fact, even though I am pretty familiar with football theory and history I still found more than plenty of interesting facts and explanations to keep me interested to the end. Great book for those who want a deeper understanding of the game we fans watch so avidly. Copy courtesy of Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. "How is the West Coast offense like quantum mechanics? How does the shape of the football invoke chaos theory? What lessons did Vince Lombardi glean from the brain of Sir Isaac Newton and the beautiful mind of John Nash? Should the NFL ban helmets? Why, in defiance of mathematics, does a coach almost never go for it on fourth down? The answers to these and dozens of other physics questions determine the outcome of every football game played in America, and--perhaps--the future of the nation's most popular sport"-- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
