( ) Interesting look at the life behind the man who voices and puppeteers Elmo. Believe it or not the man behind that voice is a 6'+ tall black man, who would of thought that such a small puppet is actually done by such a big guy. Follows the life of Kevin Clash from his childhood with his interest in making puppets in grade school up through his mid-40's with a child of his own. He talks about his young childhood where he took the fur lining out of his father's coat to make a monkey puppet. The Tickle Me Elmo craze and even to up to date things at the time of the book, Elmo's World and other countries versions of Sesame Street. The first chapters were a bit over the top for me, it was a bit too much Elmo and all love and joy, but as the book progresses it becomes a combination of life lessons and Clash's growing up in a more toned back manner. Spending nearly a quarter-century with your hand up the tuchas of a small red biped gives you time to the think. This is what we learn in Muppeteer Kevin Clash's new memoir, My Life as a Furry Red Monster. Multi-Daytime-Emmy winner Clash, he of the aforementioned awkwardly placed mitts, imparts his life lessons on love, courage, joy, optimism, and other schmaltzy hallmarks of the confessional self-improvement subgenre. Beware of Cosbyian tales about growing up a sensitive puppeteer in a sprawling Baltimore family, and nevermind the just plain creepy confessions, like Clash narrating the video of his daughter's birth as Elmo. The disturbing subtext here is that Mr. Clash was an emotional basket case until he channeled Elmo for the first time. Makes one wonder who is the puppet ... and who is the puppet master Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

For the past seventeen years, Kevin Clash has lived a secret life of the best and most rewarding kind, taking on the identity of the beloved cherry red monster known as Elmo. The seven-time Emmy winner performs to an audience of 120 million boys and girls who tune in daily to Elmo’s World, bringing Elmo to life in such a way that even adults forget that there is a man behind the muppet. After spending so many years by Elmo's side, Kevin has been able to see beyond his alter ego's obvious, cuddly charms to the real way the puppet connects with those around him. In My Life as a Furry Red Monster, Kevin shares what he has learned about love, joy, creativity, friends, and more from this most unlikely of teachers–and how all of us can benefit from acting a little more like Elmo. This inspiring memoir invites us on the remarkable journey that Kevin has been on since Elmo’s rise to fame. As an ambassador bringing joy to children all over the world, Kevin has met heads of state and worked with stars like Robert De Niro, Jim Carrey, and Mel Gibson. With full-color photographs of the pair at work and play, this book is a treat for the eye as well as the heart. No one who reads of Kevin’s regard for his mentor, the late Jim Henson, or of Elmo’s bedside visits to the children of the Make a Wish Foundation will be able to deny the poignant impact of My Life as a Furry Red Monster.
