Aaron has decided to have a procedure to wipe out his memory. His memories are too hard to handle, especially after discovering that he is gay and his life-long friends have discovered it and have beaten him so bad.
This was different. Felt a little lost near the end, not really understanding the procedure and the choice for a second one. ( )

This was an amazing book, for many reasons, one of them being that it ripped emotions out of me that very few books have. Another being that the relationships are not straight edged, but fuzzy and indistinct, and you love all the characters for one thing or another because of their interactions with the main character. Would definitely recommend, but only for those who are fine with their hearts breaking and smiling through the tears anyway. ( )

Well even though I set this book for 4 stars, for me is a 3.75 stars. The story was pretty interesting, but I had problem with the book was the pace. There were parts that were fast pace and others that it went pretty slow. The story is very interesting because it is a book that deals on the one hand discovering who you are and what are your sexual orientations and on the other hand you have family and friend that are homophobes or don't know how to dill with you.
It's a book that talks about mental health, but in a different way. It is a book that has true friendships and a lot of disapointments at the same time.
While reading this book I found a lot of strong quotes that I really liked and I know that they will stay with for a long time. A couple of them are:
1. "I latched the first person who always had a smile for me and who didn't run away when I told him my secret." (pg.152)
2. "The boy with no direction taught me something unforgettable: happiness comes again if you let it." (pg.189)
3. "Sometimes pain is so unmanageable that the idea of spending another day with it seems impossible. Other times pain acts as a compass to help you get through the messier tunnels of growing up. But the pain can only help you find happiness if you can remember it." (pg.270)
I am certain that I will read other books that Adam Silvera will publish.
I am happy that my first book of 2017 is a diverse book.

I actually thing I like this better than they both die at the end now - after reading this it makes you think about your life - I mean, I was in his place years ago and it brought back so many memories - pushing past your fears/issues and moving into a new phase of life is so astounding sometimes - anyone with depression should truly read this book - it's absolutely spectacular. Aaron has issues to work through like all teenagers do, but coming to terms with his father taking his own life, his own attempt to commit suicide, and his sexual identity simultaneously are heavier weights than most have to bear. Though he attempts to take refuge in "normal" things like his relationship with his girlfriend and hanging out with friends, he becomes increasingly interested in a new, cutting-edge medical procedure that allows people the option to forget painful memories.

I had a tough time putting this book down and finished in less than a day. It feels more authentic in behaviors and internal monologue than a great deal of teen fiction I've come across. In many ways it was not at all what I was expecting — really well done. Recommended for anyone. ( )
