Quick & Dirty: Come to Me Softly is a very heart breaking story that really pulls at your emotions. Unfortunately, I really struggled with it! The drama was way over done and one of the MC’s was way too negative for me!

Opening Sentence: Comfort.

The Review:

Aly Moore has been in love with Jared Holt pretty much her entire life, but he disappeared for years after a tragic accident where his mother was killed. He felt like the car crash was his fault and he could never forgive himself for destroying his family. He turned to drugs, alcohol, and women to dull the pain. When he appears back in Aly’s life sparks fly, and soon the two are in a steamy relationship that quickly falls apart. Jared leaves but he soon realizes that life without Aly isn’t a life at all, but coming back means he will have to face the demons of his past. Can they beat the odds against them and eventually find their happy-ever-after?

Aly was definitely the best part of the story. She has some flaws but for the most part I really liked her character. She is a strong, confident girl that goes after what she wants. She has a huge heart and she is extremely forgiving, which I really admire. She truly loves Jared for who he is and she is willing to deal with all of his issues if it means they will be together. Normally I find it annoying when a girl will look past all of a guy’s faults just because she is in love with him, but for some reason it worked in Aly’s favor. It made her come across as strong instead of seeming weak like most girls in that situation do. Her belief in love was inspirational and I really loved her character.

Jared is a sexy, complicated man that I found to be extremely frustrating. I struggled with his character in the first book but I was hoping my feelings toward him would change, and they did change but not for the better. He has a very tragic past and he has made some horrible decisions because of the overwhelming grief and guilt he feels. I felt sympathetic for his situation, but I had a really hard time understanding his logic. He is so self destructive and it made it really hard to like him. His relationship with Aly is explosive, steamy, and filled with tons of drama. He was always saying how he wasn’t good enough for Aly and sadly I have to agree with him!

Come to Me Softly is a very emotional read that I really struggled with. From the very first chapter I had a feeling it wasn’t going to work for me and I was right. For some reason I have found that it is really rare for me to like a second book in a romance series that features the same couple as the first book did. I think to some extent I get tired of the drama. I get that a story would be boring if it didn’t have conflict but I find it annoying when the same conflict takes FOREVER to get resolved. That was a huge problem for me with this book and frankly it’s been a problem for me with a lot of new adult romances. I felt like I was just reading the same thing over and over again. I also struggled with the negativity that was overly present in this book. I read to escape and to be uplifted. For the most part I don’t like depressing stories, but I do think that it is very important to have them available. I know many people find help and comfort in stories just like this one. I’m obviously not one of those people and ultimately this story just didn’t work for me. If you liked the first book or if you like extremely tortured characters then you might really like this series.

Notable Scene:

“I love you,” she mumbled when she buried her face at the side of my chest. I kissed the top of her head before I ran my hand over it. Holding her close, I looked over at Christopher. He watched us with something that maybe looked like relief, all wrapped up with a ton of distrust that I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to erase.

Of course I wanted to fix the damage I’d done. Bottom line, Christopher was my best friend. He’d been my entire life.

But the girl in my arms?

She was the one who really mattered, the one I had to make things right with, the one I was going to love for the rest of my life.
