Loved how this is a true series following all the characters and their continued issues. Book gives them true realism with not sugar coating. Mamaw, the grandmother playing less of an interference yet offering guidance. Carson has to continue fixing the problems with injuring the dolphin along with autistic Nate learning to care. Her love of Blake takes detours. Dora proves that just being married doesn’t make life wonderful. Meeting her teenage lover Devlin provides a look at what love really means. Harper has a solution for sisters issues but not her own. The Summer Wind is the second book in the Lowcountry Summer trilogy. The first novel in this trilogy was The Summer Girls. This novel continues the tale of three half sisters, Dora, Carson, and Harper. This novel focuses more on Dora though we do get some points of view from Carson and Harper. Dora is separated from her husband and still trying her best to deal with her son Nate's autism. While back on Sullivan's Island and staying at her grandmother Mamaw's home 'Sea Breeze' Dora reconnects with an old love and finally starts to come back to herself a bit. We also get Carson still struggling with her own demons and Harper starting to let go from all of the trappings from her mother's side of the family. There really is not much tension in this novel. We do have the sisters getting mad at each other and we have Harper struggling with a major decision. However, those incidents are either quickly smoothed over except for Harper's decision. I assume that will be looked at more in the third and final novel. Speaking of Harper I feel like Mary Alice Monroe wove too many story-lines in this novel that revolved around her. I am pretty much guessing what the outcome of Harper's storyline will be but I bet I am right. That said, readers will get a look into a character from one of Mary Alice Monroe's other novels which I welcomed. I wish that she had actually provided some more details on this character since I am wondering what is going on in her life right now based on where we left her in Swimming Lessons. There was one plot that I think would have been great to be carried over into the third novel but was wrapped up in this novel at the conclusion. I wish that Ms. Monroe had actually had that go into the third and final novel since it felt hastily done. Ultimately this is just what I would consider a great beach read. This author did something very rare, she managed to make the second book in this series better than the first! I loved reading these books back to back and continuing with the characters' story lines. It also feels like time is passing at a more leisurely pace than it normally does in the book. This book is also about The Summer Sisters from book 1. The girls are Dora, Carson and Harper. They are spending the summer with their grandmother and her longtime friend and helper Lucille. This story focused more on Dora's story. I just found it a lot more enjoyable than Carson's story. I can't wait till the next book to see what happens in Harper's stories and where we pick up on all the cliffhangers from this book. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya

"This heartwarming women's fiction series from beloved New York Times bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe centers on Marietta Colson Muir, a dowager of Charleston society who has retired to her historic summer home on Sullivan's Island called Conquest, and her three granddaughters Carson, Eudora, and Harper. It's summer once again on idyllic Sullivan's Island, but Eudora, or Dora as she's affectionately called by her family, is feeling anything but perfect. With a perpetually withdrawn son and an impending divorce, the pressure is just too much to handle, and Dora cracks, suffering what the doctors are calling 'Broken Heart' syndrome. Mamaw, Lucille, Harper, and Carson all rally around Dora to support her and nurse her back to health--however, it seems Dora isn't the only one falling apart this summer. Between Lucille's health scare and an unexpected surprise that has Carson reconsidering her life's direction, it looks like all the women of Sullivan's Island could use some TLC. When Sullivan's is hit with a tropical storm, it will be up to the three sisters to band together and weather the tempest together--both the one outside their windows, and the raging sea of emotions within each one of them" -- No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
