2015 GDRWA Booksellers' Best Award Before he can settle down, blond-haired, blue-eyed Robley of clan MacKintosh needs to taste true adventure. So when the faerie Madame Giselle asks him to retrieve her stolen property in exchange for two enchanted tokens that will whisk him across the centuries, he jumps at the chance. Nurse and future midwife Erin Durie is broke and alone, thanks to a roommate who skipped town and the psychic gifts that make relationships too intense and painful to bear. Then a kilted man magically drops into her arms, looking for a guide to the twenty-first century, and she can't deny the attraction. But magical treachery soon throws open time's portal once more--and puts a blade to Robley's throat. Now Erin must decide where--or when--her healing powers can do the most good...and whether she can live without her handsome Highlander. In the second thrilling Novel of Loch Moigh, award-winning author Barbara Longley delivers more of the action, adventure, and romance that began in the pulse-pounding True to the Highlander.… (més)
SENSUALITY RATING: Very mild PROFANITY; Yes SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS; Yes Euphemistic "CODE WORDS ie., “His shaft jerked, ….”
GENRE: Historical Romance
SETTING: Scotland, 1426
CENTRAL FEMALE CHARACTER: ERIN DURIE – studying to be a midwife; gift of physical impressions.
CENTRAL MALE CHARACTER: ROBLEY MacKINTOSH – Twenty four and a warrior; bored; curious and longs to see the future as it has been described to him
SYNOPSIS: He is compelled to go to the future. Is he making a deal with the devil herself? She is in the future and months away from graduating as a midwife.
WHAT I LIKED: The “chick magnet” and the jacket.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE: Too many sexual situations which takes away from the plot.
OVERALL RATING: (3) stars because fantastic plot but too many occurrences of sexual encounters. Not as humorous as Book 1 and humor does a great romance book make. ( )
A time traveling 15th century Scottish nobleman lands in this century on top of (literally) the woman he instantly falls in love with and plans to marry. She is a midwife in training, just what his century needs. She is also, however, soured on love and the book details their adventures, in both worlds, in and out of each others arms. Will she give up her career dreams and join him in his century, or will she hold fast to plans before he came into her life? Be prepared for some steamy sex scenes, fairy spells and curses and old fashioned values. I did not realize it is book two of a series. It functions fine as a stand alone novel. My thanks to the author and Goodreads for a complimentary copy. ( )

Robley sat in his uncle’s solar, his thoughts drifting like thistledown in a stiff breeze. His father, uncle and cousin droned on and on about their clan’s kine, the condition of this year’s crops, the villagers and the needs of their crofters. He placed his elbows on the table and scrubbed his face with both hands, stifling the urge to yawn.

Madame Giselle sought me out because of the little bit of faerie blood running through my veins.
I ken you are one of the ancient ones, Tuatha Dé Danann. Faerie.
For all I know, you could be a time-traveling serial killer.
Though you’re from a mere Lowland clan, while I’m a Highlander, you’re still a Scot.
Once you have a room, I’ll teach you how to use the phone. You can call me if you need help.
This is my Harley, or what I like to refer to as my chick magnet.
You have stolen from the high king of the Tuatha Dé Danann. The penalty for such a grievous offense is death.
Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap! I’m so sorry. I didn’t know you were back, Rob
My parents thought me dead. I . . . I gave them such grief and worry
Whatever may come, let us join our hearts together so that we face our fate united.
Even if they don’t, they won’t be the first to be delivered sunny-side up.
And another toast in celebration of the birth of my grandsons and Malcolm’s heirs, David James, whom we call Migizi to honor his mother’s people, and Owain William, whom we call Bizhiw.
I told Erin that once a MacKintosh gives his heart, ’tis given for life.
Yes, I have been busy. I finished school too. I’m now a certified midwife.
You’ve a letter, mo céile, and a scroll.
The tie began with Hunter, and as to why, I believe the link to our clan began by chance.

Once again the sound of laughter resounded, fading as if her ancestor were moving away from them. "So be it." Erin sighed, stretched and snuggled up against Robley's warmth, content to be home for good.
