"Be flexible. Be compassionate. Rules can never cure insecurity. Integrity matters. Never try to script what your relationships will look like. Love is abundant. Compatibility matters. You cannot sacrifice your happiness for that of another. [...] It is almost impossible to be loving or compassionate when all you fear is fear of loss. Trust that your partners want to be with you, and that if given the freedom to do anything they please, they will choose to cherish and support you."

Great book with lots of points to get you thinking. The "Questions to ask yourself" are really helpful and enlightening. My brain has too much to process now. ( )

This was recommended to me by one of the facilitators at my local poly group and I'm really glad they did. This book is a comprehensive look at polyamory and encompasses any situation that I could conceive of. (I did get some feedback from a monogamous person who was in a mono/poly relationship that felt her experiences were not represented in the chapter talking about this kind of relationship.) As a solo poly, I like that there was discussion about my style of poly.

The book revolves around two basic principles: "the people in a relationship are more important than the relationship" and "do not treat people as things". The end of the book sums it up as "love more. Be awesome." It talks as much about the inner work you need to do for successful relationships of any type as it does about the mechanics of poly living.

Each chapter ends with questions to ask related to the topic and throughout each chapter the authors tell stories from their own experiences to illustrate. There's a glossary and resource section at the end. This deserves to be the new go-to book on poly. ( )
