I'll be honest, I saw the movie before I read the book. The age-old saying still holds true; the book is better than the movie! I loved how realistically Simon and his friends spoke. They sounded and acted like real teenagers, which is really nice. The problems they face feel (and are) real problems that teenagers nowadays have to face. I also loved that we got a look into Simon and Bram's relationship and that it didn't end as soon as they got together. Reading this makes me want to read Leah Offbeat and other books by Albertalli. i finished reading this book, as before i’d only gotten about a quarter of the way through although I did keep pursuing with the book I gave it a 3/5. I have given it another go and finished it within 2 days. I still understand why I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars as before I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style and did generally find it boring as the start does start of slow and kind of ‘over explained’ i’m not a huge fan of them types of books but after giving it another go, being more open minded and reading through the first few chapters I have decided it’s now a 5/5 this is because it’s such a nice cute book, good characters, although a few did annoy me but that’s what characters are for, the storyline was interesting and overall it made me laugh and sometimes get a bit teary. ( )

A good read overall. Predictable and sweet with a really great sense of humor. A pretty accurate telling of coming out and first crush/love. ( )

What a sweet story. Lots to dissect if one cares to, but it's fun and the misunderstandings are so totally realistic and omg his parents. *facepalm*

Usually I'm reading between four and eight books at a time, waiting for the point at which one hits the top of its roller-coaster climb and tips me down the must-read-all-the-words-in-a-rush to the end. I hit it in this one at less than halfway through. I loved it. There's always that trepidation that maybe the end won't be perfect. Well, this one's perfect. ( )
